Australia's premier institution for improv training and performance. Home of The Bear Pack, the cast We are Sydney’s first and only dedicated improv theatre.

Improv Theatre Sydney is a creative, inclusive and world-class school for students of improvisation. Improvisation is a collaborative method of creating live, spontaneous theatre. We teach people how to conceive original scenes in the moment, spontaneously discovering ideas, relationships and worlds – all from a single audience suggestion. Our performance ensemble and student alumni includes Alex

Lee (The Checkout), Bridie Connell (ARIA award-winner, Tonightly), Sam Mac (Sunrise), Kyran Wheatley (triple j), Susie Youssef (The Project), David Collins (The Umbilical Brothers) as well as award-winning comedians Steen Raskopoulos and Carlo Ritchie (The Bear Pack), Tom Walker (MICF Award nominee), Bec Melrose (2018 Raw Comedy winner) and more. In addition to improv classes, we also offer sketch, stand-up, and other speciality courses written and taught by industry professionals (Tonightly’s Wyatt Nixon-Lloyd, Hughesy, We Have A Problem head writer Penny Greenhalgh). We’ve facilitated corporate workshops for national and international clients including Google, Commonwealth Bank, EY (Ernst & Young), Buzzfeed, Sydney Thunder, Barnados Australia and Stryker. Improv is by its nature participatory and is emboldened by a diversity within its audiences and performers. ITS aims to provide a space where all people can perform together, embracing the mosaic of Sydney’s multiculturalism, religious plurality, gender and sexual diversity. Meet the BTS superstars of the upcoming annual ITS Comedy Festival!

Festival Director Jim Fishwick (they/them, Jim Fishwish), our theatre's Artistic Director, has been squirrelled away working on the fest, saying:
"An improv festival is a beautiful, unique opportunity to bring improvisers and audiences of all stripes together to live at the theatre for a week and a bit. I can't wait to share this year's eclectic and electric line-up with you all — some ITS favourites, some bold new ideas, and some amazing guests from out of town. See you there!"

Chipz Jin (they/them, chipzjin) joins us as Assistant Producer. From Ngunnawal/Ngambri land, Chipz brings a rich production history starting in 2019, when they started their (still active) uni improv club with some mates, to producing a national tour for Rebus Theatre (2025-2026). They've seen some things.
"I feel so to be working with Jim, and the team at ITS this year to help bring this festival to life. We can't wait to bring you the bold and the beautiful improvisors with a lot to give."

Experience Homer’s poem, the way it has been told for millenia – one voice, one room, one epic story.

In a newly abridged poetic version, performer Kate Knott and pianist Irene Nicola will tell the ancient story of Odysseus, the hero of the Trojan War and his quest to return home.

Think fast! We’ve partnered with the City Of Sydney to run a 3-week program for youth aged 15-18 at the Redfern Community Oval.

Designed to boost confidence, spark creativity and meet like-minded people, it’s a great way for young people to dip a toe into improv!
