🐾💙 Our Pre-Primary students were delighted to welcome Assistant Principal Mr Kim Hughes and his beautiful dog, Carmello, for a special visit last week!
As part of their learning about living things, students had the opportunity to learn about the care, responsibility, and love that pets need to stay happy and healthy. Mr Hughes shared valuable insights into feeding, exercising, grooming, and caring for Carmello, while students enjoyed asking questions and interacting with their furry visitor.
Experiences like these help bring learning to life and encourage our students to develop kindness, empathy, and respect for all living things.

📚✨ Last week, students across St Maria Goretti's Catholic School joined thousands of children around Australia in celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS)!
Together, we enjoyed reading Luna Roo, a wonderful story that captured our students' imaginations and highlighted the joy that books can bring. National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, encourage a love of books, and connect communities through the shared experience of storytelling.
At St Maria Goretti's, we know that reading opens doors to learning, creativity, and lifelong opportunities. It was fantastic to see our students engaged, enthusiastic, and united as they shared this special reading experience together.

Our Year 4 students recently participated in a meaningful and engaging retreat in preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. We were fortunate to welcome School Ministry 24/7, who led the students through a variety of interactive games, discussions, and hands-on activities designed to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist and the importance of Holy Communion. Throughout the day, students explored how Jesus is present in the Eucharist and reflected on ways they can live out their faith in their everyday lives. The retreat was a wonderful opportunity for students to learn, connect, and grow spiritually as they continue their sacramental journey.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Brooke Skefington to St Maria Goretti's Catholic School as she worked alongside our Year 3 to Year 6 teachers and students during engaging Mathematics warm-up sessions. ✏️➕
Students explored a range of numeracy strategies, including Stimystries by Steve Wyborney and Number String warm-ups, helping to build confidence, problem-solving skills, and mathematical thinking in fun and interactive ways.

Throughout the month of May, our students at St Maria Goretti's Catholic School have been beautifully learning about and participating in the Holy Rosary 🌹🙏
In the Catholic Church, May is known as the Month of Mary — a special time where we honour Mary, the Mother of Jesus, through prayer and reflection. The Rosary helps guide us in thinking about the life of Jesus and reminds us to grow in faith, kindness, peace, and love within our school community.
A heartfelt thank you to Mrs Petrillo and Mr Havenga for their wonderful organisation and leadership in helping our students prayerfully engage in this meaningful tradition. Your dedication has helped make this a special and faith-filled experience for all. 💙

This Sunday’s Gospel reminds us that even in moments of fear and uncertainty, Jesus brings peace, courage, and hope. 🙏✨
In John 20:19-23, the disciples were gathered behind locked doors, afraid and unsure of what lay ahead. Yet Jesus came among them saying, “Peace be with you,” filling their hearts with joy and sending them out with purpose through the gift of the Holy Spirit.

At St Maria Goretti's Catholic School, we are reminded to live out our school values with courage — to SHINE through Service, Hope, Integrity, Nurture and Excellence. Just as the disciples were called to step beyond fear and share God’s love with the world, we too are encouraged to bring peace, kindness and hope to those around us each day. 💙

There was great excitement in Year 2G this week as our long-awaited butterfly finally emerged from its chrysalis! 🦋✨
After patiently observing and learning about the life cycle of butterflies, our students were thrilled to witness this incredible transformation firsthand. From egg to caterpillar, to chrysalis and now a beautiful butterfly, the learning has truly come to life right before their eyes.
Moments like these spark curiosity, wonder, and a deeper appreciation of God’s creation, as our students experience science in such a meaningful and memorable way. 🌿💛

🍎✨ This week we said goodbye to our three wonderful ECU prac students who have been part of our St Maria Goretti's Catholic School community over the past few weeks.
During their time with us, they showed great enthusiasm, care, and dedication while working alongside our students and staff. We thank them for the positive contribution they made to our school community and hope they have enjoyed this valuable learning experience. 💛
A very special thank you to Mr Havenga and Miss Flood for guiding and mentoring the prac students in Year 2. Your support, leadership, and willingness to share your knowledge is truly appreciated. 👏

💛✨ What a beautiful and heartfelt assembly presented by our amazing Year 2G class last week! ✨💛
The assembly focused on the message of love and the scripture from John 13:34:
“Love one another as I have loved you.” 📖
Through their words, actions, and performances, the students shared a wonderful reminder of the importance of kindness, compassion, and caring for others in our daily lives. It was a joy to see their confidence, enthusiasm, and teamwork shine throughout the presentation. 🌟
A very big thank you to Mr Havenga and Miss Dempsey, Miss Almond, Miss Boshua for all of their hard work and dedication in putting together such a meaningful assembly item. Your efforts and guidance were greatly appreciated by our whole school community. 👏

🦋🐛 What a wonderful assembly item from our amazing Year 2M class recently! 🌿✨

The students proudly showcased their learning about things like the life cycle of a butterfly and narrative writing. It was fantastic to see their creativity, confidence, and enthusiasm shine through during the presentation. 📚💚

Adding even more excitement to their learning journey, the class has been caring for some fascinating leaf insects kindly donated by a parent, as well as eagerly waiting for a beautiful butterfly chrysalis to emerge! 🪴🦗🦋 What an incredible hands-on learning experience for our students.

A very special thank you to Miss Flood for her amazing efforts in putting together such a meaningful and engaging assembly item with the wonderful 2M class. Your dedication and creativity were truly appreciated by all who attended. 👏💛
