SCAM ALERT ⚠️

Police have received reports of scammers utilising ‘Caller ID spoofing' in the Moreton District, with scammers making phone calls that appear to originate from local police stations.

We urge the community to remain alert to suspicious scam phone calls. If you receive an unsolicited phone call, make sure you take steps to verify the identity of the caller before you provide any personal or financial information, regardless of who you are speaking to or what number they are calling from. Police will never ask for any form of payment over the phone under any circumstances.

🚨 Scam alert! 🚨

Queensland Police Service is receiving an increasing number of reports of scammers impersonating police officers by altering caller IDs to make it appear as though the call is coming from a police station.

These scammers use spoofed phone numbers to build credibility before attempting to obtain personal details, money or banking information. We have also seen an increase in reports targeting members of the Chinese community, including international students.

Remember, Queensland Police will never:
🚫 Demand payment or ask you to transfer money.
🚫 Ask for payment via gift cards, cryptocurrency or money transfers.
🚫 Request your personal details, banking PIN or passwords over the phone.
🚫 Ask for remote access to your phone or computer.
🚫 Pressure you into making an immediate financial decision or threaten arrest.

If you receive a suspicious call:
✅ Hang up and contact organisations using an official phone number you source yourself.
✅ Never rely on caller ID alone - phone numbers can be spoofed.
✅ Never share personal or financial information with an unexpected caller.
✅ Never make payments or provide remote access under pressure.

If you’ve lost money, contact your bank immediately and report the incident to ReportCyber.

Stay vigilant. If something doesn’t feel right, hang up and verify.

BREAKING NEWS FROM MICROSOFT:: The Extended Security Updates for Windows 10 has been extended to October 2027.... another 12 months on top of the deadline of October 2026... While we have been telling members to think about upgrading their PC's, Microsoft has done a 360 on the support of Windows 10. If you have a Windows 10 computer and have already applied for the ESU updates until October this year, you will be given another 12 months to make the transition to Windows 11. A word of warning though... there will be no further app or program updates... no added features and very little support... ONLY THE SECURITY UPDATES that work within Windows Securities app will be updated. Redcliffe Computer Club will still help with your Windows 10 issues until October 2027. Our advice is to invest in a new computer that comes with Windows 11 to ensure robust security and feature updates. This has given you some more time to invest in a new PC.
