Irrawang Public School At Irrawang Public School, we proudly serve the Raymond Terrace community, offering high quality, co-educational learning from Preschool to Year 6.

We support every student to learn, grow and succeed. Irrawang Public School is located on the traditional lands of the Worimi people. This land once formed part of pioneer farmer and artist James King's property "Irrawang". This comes from an Aboriginal term meaning "water view". Since commencing in September 1968 with an enrolment of 176 students the school has grown with its surrounding communit

y. The school is set as the focus of the community, surrounded by houses. The playground areas are large with native tree settings, covered and uncovered areas, grass and gardens for a variety of activities. Irrawang Public School is a diverse learning community with 11 classes K-6, an onsite DET Preschool, Special Education unit and Schools as Community Centre (SaCC) – Thou Walla. These services assist us to provide the best possible educational opportunities for our wider community. Irrawang Public School is one of four primary schools in Raymond Terrace. The school is located in a residential area much of which is designated as public housing. In 1997 the school was placed on the Disadvantaged Schools Program. The resultant additional funding has greatly assisted in the delivery of effective literacy programs. Over the past three years, basic skills test results show senior students have an improvement rate in literacy that is greater than that of their peers statewide. The school's prime purpose is to provide every student the opportunity and encouragement to achieve their personal best in all areas of learning to maximise their choices for the future. To achieve this the school has instituted a comprehensive curriculum with special emphasis on literacy, numeracy, student welfare and computer technology. Underpinning all that occurs in the school are the fundamental beliefs of respect, responsibility and quality.

Tomorrow, students are invited to come to school in m***i as part of Bazza’s Business – a student-led entrepreneurial project where students design, create and promote their own products 👕✨

Students can wear casual clothes and are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation. Please ensure all students still wear sun-safe clothing and fully enclosed shoes for safety.

What a fantastic first term it has been in 3/4L! We’ve had so much fun learning and getting to know each other, building teamwork through games, writing cheeky stories about classroom pranks, exploring new concepts in Maths, and discovering how living things depend on each other and their environments in Science. Our students have also expressed their creativity through art and loved Patch to Plate with Mr Manhood, collecting fresh fruit and making pancakes. We are so proud of the curiosity, creativity, and hard work our 3/4L learners have shown this term!

On Thursday, 2nd April, IPS will be celebrating our Easter Parade AND farewelling our wonderful Mrs Mathieson.
It is time to begin creating your Easter hats, hair bands or head dress to parade at our celebration.
Remember - Donations are still being collected from the P+C for our Raffle. The more donations we have, the more prizes could be won!

Today we celebrated Harmony Day at Irrawang Public School. 🧡
Harmony Week runs from the 16th to the 22nd of March. Harmony Week is about celebrating Australia’s cultural diversity, promoting inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.
The week-long celebration, centered on the theme "everyone belongs," and aligns with the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Our day started off with a special assembly.
Sasha did the Acknowledgement to Country. We then heard from Sami, a refugee from Afghanistan who shared some of his story including coming to live in Australia. Central amazed us with their dancing and this included a dance we all joined in on.
Our last performance was Berias Masseque, a musician from Mozambique who shared some of his story and sang to us with the musical instruments he had brought along. Mrs Rudolph then awarded certificates in honour of Harmony Day. 👏🏼🫶🏻

Later in the day, students participated in a cultural food tasting session, which included classes preparing a dish from another country to share with students. It was exciting to see the different displays.🌏🍝🌭🍜🥟🥐

Students also participated in in class activities including watching a Harmony Day film clip made with the help of students. 🧡

A big thank you to everyone who joined in, as well as to the staff for supporting to make it such a great day.
