POSITION FILLED 🙌
We are guilty as hell for trying to do everything ourselves!
But the truth is; we just can't.
We're both just either side of 60! Life is not waiting on us.
If the job interests you, please read the full post.
Rhondhu Stud was founded in 1985, and now 41 years later, we finally have a paddock full of good horses that we have been a lifetime breeding and dreaming to own, horses that we are proud of, horses that fit our motto written 21 years ago.
'To breed horses that are user-friendly, versatile, with great pedigrees, trainable minds, functional & athletic bodies, standing on good timber with good feet, between 14.3Hh – 15.1Hh, with a heart to work, a bit of grit, the looks to halter, outstanding cow-sense, have an attitude to please you, and the ability to win.'
We sell 20-30 progeny annually. There is nothing we enjoy more than to see someone competing well on a horse we bred. It just makes our day!
For our own horses we keep, we always seem to have too many irons in the fire as it seems we're always an hour, or a day, or a week late!
We love our cattle and our trucks as well, but it is our horses that often miss out on getting enough rides.
And it is our horses that we want to enjoy most before we can't.
We have some beautifully bred and talented youngsters, that seem to be getting old enough to breed, before we even get them to a draft.
So we have both agreed that in order to get our young horses ridden, to get them to competition before we need a wheelchair, we need some help.
A decision, once again, not taken lightly!
PLEASE read the tick list properly before applying.
We can handle talent in this job; but not a beginner this time.
We can handle age or gender barriers; but not dreamers any more.
We can handle someone needing some direction and ideas; but not someone needing tuition, at this stage.
The horses to be ridden have no issues, but they are young and thus unpredictable, so we need you to have enough horse savvy to deal with that when we are not around to help you.
We have given so many horse positions in our time, to people who are apparently experienced, or fixated on a horse career, or would do anything to have a horse job; but when the chips are down, the days become big, the horses present challenges, the phone doesn't have service; then before you know it, we've invested a whole lot of time and effort to help someone who was not really vested in the game, or in befriending horses that they did not own, from the start.
I once heard a saying; that you can tell a real gardener when they love their own garden as much as helping their neighbours love theirs.
Well the horse game is no different.
We see so many who love their own horses, pat them, genuinely care for them, but when it comes to their employer's or client's horses, there’s no care factor at all.
We want someone who has some raw talent, has some feel, has respect for ALL horses (and the boss) someone who wants to advance our horses to be near ready to compete, and add to their own experience file at the same time.
We are negotiable people by nature so it seems, as our own plans change by the hour. So if you think you have something to offer us, that will achieve our goals and yours too, then please get in touch.
We have set guidelines of what we want, but are open to other ideas and suggestions; provided the main goal is achieved.
We have our head around paying an industry appropriate rate, in return for an industry appropriate effort, but this job is not just about money. To us it is more about trusting someone with our lifetime of breeding horses to help us get some young stock into competition, and giving someone an opportunity to ride some horses of world class genetics who might not get that opportunity otherwise. These opportunities in the horse game do not come up very often.
And please remember; if you are not a genuine, hard working, happy and energetic horse lover, looking for a career with horses in the performance and cattle working industry of horses, then this position is probably not for you.
