What helps a trauma therapist move from understanding parts to knowing what to do next in the therapy room?

In this episode of The Resourceful Therapist, I speak with Claudia Wolf about her journey from experienced trauma therapist to Resource Therapy trainer.

Claudia is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, trauma therapist, Accredited EMDR Clinician, Advanced Clinical Resource Therapist and Trainer. Her work brings together Resource Therapy, EMDR, therapy intensives, trauma-informed practice and neurodiversity-affirming care.

We explore:

• Why clinical structure matters when working with personality parts
• How Resource Therapy provides a practical roadmap for treatment
• Integrating Resource Therapy with EMDR
• The possibilities offered by therapy intensives
• Claudia’s development from practitioner to trainer
• Why experiential learning builds clinical confidence

This is a thoughtful and practical conversation for therapists who want to work with greater clarity while remaining compassionate, responsive and deeply attuned to their clients.

She was a psychologist. She worked in child protection. Then postpartum psychosis made her the patient.

I have just finished Because I’m Not Myself, You See by Ariane Beeston, and I believe it is essential reading for every mental health professional.

Ariane was a newly registered psychologist and child protection worker when she began experiencing frightening breaks with reality after becoming a mother.

Her professional knowledge did not protect her from becoming unwell. Nor did it protect her from the fear and shame that made it difficult to reveal her delusions and hallucinations.

That dual perspective makes this memoir particularly powerful.

Ariane takes us beyond diagnostic language and into the lived experience of postpartum psychosis, psychiatric admission and recovery. She helps us understand how a capable, informed professional can struggle to recognise what is happening within her own mind.

Postpartum psychosis is a psychiatric emergency. The person experiencing it may not realise they are unwell, which means partners, family members and health professionals may need to act on their behalf.

This book reminds us to notice sudden changes, listen without judgement and take concerns seriously.

It is courageous, moving, informative and ultimately hopeful.

A must-read for psychologists, psychiatrists, GPs, midwives, nurses, social workers, child protection professionals and anyone supporting new parents and families.

If you are concerned that someone may be experiencing postpartum psychosis, seek urgent professional assessment.

In immediate danger, call 000 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

In NSW, call the 24-hour Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511.

For national perinatal mental health information, support and referral, contact PANDA on 1300 726 306. PANDA is not an emergency service.

Please save or share this post. It may help someone recognise what is happening and seek support sooner.

Could something you’re learning in your practice help another therapist?
President’s Diary | An invitation to share your work

As President of Resource Therapy International, I’m delighted that presentation submissions are now open for our Second World Conference in Erlangen, Germany, 17–19 June 2027.

Our theme is New Directions in Parts Therapy.

For me, one of the most rewarding parts of leading RTI is seeing colleagues share their knowledge across countries, cultures and clinical settings. These conversations help our professional community grow.

Perhaps you have a Resource Therapy case study, research findings, a clinical application or a fresh perspective to contribute.

I warmly invite practitioners, researchers, trainers and educators from Australia, Europe and beyond to explore the submission guidelines.

Presentations are welcomed in English or German, with professional consecutive interpretation provided.

Submissions close 1 October 2026.Call for submissions.

I look forward to seeing what you will bring to Erlangen.
