NBN NEWS VISITS QUIRINDI HIGH SCHOOL AG FARM

Today, the NBN crew visited Quirindi High School Ag Farm to catch up with Mr Harries and his accelerated Agriculture students, who have recently completed their HSC Trials.

With students ranging from Year 9 through to Year 12 preparing to sit their HSC in Agriculture, it was a wonderful opportunity for Rob and the crew from NBN to meet our students, hear from them and capture some of the practical farm lessons in action. The visit provided a great insight into our Agriculture program taking place at our school.

A big thank you to Mr Harries, Mrs Lane and the students who took the time to go on camera. We would also like to thank our QHS Farm Manager, Mr Hird, for his assistance with the running of the farm and lesson preparation for classes.

A DAY OF CHESS AND COMPETITON ♟️

Yesterday, our brilliant chess team travelled to Tamworth to compete against students from Farrer and McCarthy Catholic College in a fun-filled chess competition!

With 10-minute timed games, it was a new experience, and our students had to think quickly, adapt their strategies and put their chess skills to the test.

It was fantastic to see everyone embracing the challenge, encouraging their opponents and sharing tips along the way! The concentration was so intense that, at times, you could hear a pin drop!

A brilliant day of strategy, sportsmanship, new friendships and, of course, a few checkmates!

A special thank you to Ms Cattanach for organising our team and for her continued commitment to our Chess Club each Monday. Her dedication and encouragement have helped our students develop their skills and confidence on the chessboard.

A SEASON TO BE PROUD OF - QHS U15’s NETBALL TEAM🏐

It’s been a fantastic year of netball for our QHS U15s Netball team!

Reaching the Top 4 in the North West competition is an incredible achievement and something the team should be very proud of. 👏

Yesterday’s semi-final was a tough contest, and the girls showed great determination. Congratulations to Inverell on taking the win and well done to our QHS team for an outstanding season!

A huge thank you to Mrs Batho for her unwavering support throughout the season - it is truly appreciated.

And a special shout-out to year 11 student, Chelsea Hayman for stepping up to umpire yesterday’s game. Thank you, Chelsea!

Congratulations to all our players on a fantastic season! Your commitment, teamwork and determination have been outstanding. You should all be incredibly proud of what you’ve achieved.

FARMING FOR KIDS’ SCHOLARSHIPS – OPEN!

Farming For Kids have generously put forward two scholarships again this year - available to year 10 students attending Quirindi High School. All year 10's are encouraged to apply!

Each scholarship is valued at a $5,000.00 ($1,000 annually over a five year period) to support students to achieve their ambitions in their chosen field of education and future career.

The Scholarships are:

🌻DREAM, BELIEVE, ACHIEVE
This scholarship has been established to help students from QHS achieve their educational and future career goals. The aim is to broaden opportunities available to students and offers students a way to move forward with their goals and take the next steps in their career path.

🌽AGRICULTURE INTO THE FUTURE
This scholarship is designed to support students attending QHS gain the skills necessary to become active members of the agricultural community.

An email with all the application information will be sent to all Year 10 students.

🗓️Applications open today – Monday 24th August 2026.

🗓️Applications Close - Friday 25th September 2026.

CREATING THE INTERNET!🌏

Mrs Pritchett's Year 8 HSIE class brought their study of Interconnections to life by creating their own classroom internet network!

Students connected different countries and explored how undersea cables and communication networks allow information to travel around the world. They also discovered what happens when a connection goes down and had to find new ways to keep the world connected!
