Today, we farewell Miss Shannon, who is moving away from the area and has secured a position at another wonderful preschool within her local community.

Miss Shannon has been part of the Karabar Preschool team for almost three years, and during that time, we have loved having her as part of our team and watching her grow and develop into the amazing Educator she is today.

We will certainly miss her warmth, enthusiasm and genuine care for the children, families and Educators at Karabar Preschool. We are so proud of everything she has achieved during her time with us and excited to see where this next chapter takes her.

Please join us in wishing Miss Shannon every happiness and success for the future. We have no doubt that wonderful things are ahead for her as she begins this exciting new chapter in her life journey. We will miss you, Miss Shannon! đź’•

A small group of our preschool children, accompanied by Miss Belinda and Miss Bethany, joined children, families and members of the local basketball community to celebrate the official commencement of construction on the exciting upgrades to the local basketball stadium.

Since the safety fencing first appeared at the end of last term, the children have been eagerly following the progress of the project. Their curiosity sparked many meaningful conversations at preschool, with children sharing their ideas, predictions and questions about what was happening and imagining what the completed stadium might look like.

As part of the celebration, the children were invited to participate in the official turning of the first sod to mark the beginning of construction. They embraced this special responsibility with great enthusiasm and a genuine sense of pride. The children also enjoyed meeting QPRC Mayor Kenrick Wi******er, The Hon. Steve Whan MP and The Hon. Tara Moriarty MLC, making the occasion even more memorable.
This experience provided a valuable opportunity for the children to participate in an important community event and witness firsthand how communities grow, change and invest in their future. It also strengthened their understanding of community partnerships and fostered an even greater sense of belonging and connection to the place where they live, play and learn.
We extend our thanks to the Queanbeyan Basketball Association for inviting our preschool to be part of this significant occasion. We feel incredibly privileged to have shared in such an important milestone for our local community and look forward to watching the transformation unfold over the coming months.

With enrolments offers starting up next month, we are sharing our 2027 timetable for families to start making note of classroom/preschool preferences.

QDPA offer a mix of 2 and 3 day programs across our four preschools - some classes do fill up quickly, so we encourage families to have a couple of options ready in case your first option has been taken.

Just a reminder, once you have secured a spot with QDPA, we do not do swaps or changes to other classes or preschools.

We originally shared this in 2025 - the information available to families is still relevant, particularly given recent media coverage around breaches to child safety across the early childhood sector.

With the guidance of Miss Belinda, the children have created and named 'Betty' the Scarecrow after Ellodie sparked an interest in scarecrows during Term 2.
This project is now growing into an exciting exploration that combines the children's fascination with scarecrows, with another identified interest in sunflowers, with plans to begin planting sunflower seeds in the coming weeks.
As part of our learning, we've also been reading and watching the story The Scarecrow's Wedding. This story has inspired the children to explore the ideas of making lists and collecting special items, just like the characters in the book. Remi, in particular, has been enthusiastically creating her own lists, encouraging her friends to join in, and carefully ticking off the items as they are collected.
We are now gathering resources to create Harry the Scarecrow, so that both Betty and Harry—just like in the story—can become part of our ongoing play and learning.
A huge thank you to the families who have already donated clothes and accessories for our scarecrows. Your contributions are helping to bring this wonderful project to life, and we truly appreciate your support.

The Koalas children held their much-anticipated Garage Sale this week at preschool!
This wonderful experience began with an idea from Daisy, who recently held a garage sale at home to raise money to buy new toys for our preschool, proudly raising $9. After Daisy shared her story with the children and Educators, we decided it would be a fantastic idea to hold our own Garage Sale at preschool. We invited each child to donate a toy if they wished, and the response from our families was incredible, with so many generous donations received.
The Garage Sale provided a meaningful opportunity to extend on previous learning about economic sustainability, building on previous discussions about saving money and exploring questions such as, "What if you don't have money?"
Together, Daisy and Miss Belinda created an invitation for families so everyone knew about our special event, and the enthusiasm and support from our preschool community was truly wonderful.
As the children prepared for the sale, they created signs and took an active role in deciding how much each item should cost, encouraging conversations about value, money and making decisions together.
When Garage Sale day finally arrived, the excitement was contagious! The children eagerly brought along their money, while Miss Shannon took on the important role of cashier.
There were questions such as, "How many things can I get?" and "I have two of these—how much is that?" The children carefully selected their purchases, paid for their items and received their change, enjoying a real-life shopping experience.
At the end of the sale, we gathered together to count and tally all of the coins and notes we had collected to work out our final total.
Thanks to the success of our Garage Sale, along with the generous additional donations received on the day, we raised an amazing $133.00!
After the school holidays, we will revisit this experience with the children and involve them in the exciting process of deciding how to use the money to purchase new resources for our preschool.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our Koalas children and families for your incredible generosity and support. What began as one preschooler's thoughtful idea blossomed into a rich learning experience that encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, mathematical thinking, economic sustainability and community spirit. We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this special event such a memorable success.
