CELEBRATING BOOK WEEK WITH CHARMAINE LEDDEN-LEWIS:

As part of our Book Week celebrations, some Year 7 students attended an author visit at Queanbeyan South Primary School. The students participated in a drawing lesson with Charmaine Ledden-Lewis, a Blue Mountains artist and descendant of the Bundjalung people. The students had an amazing time and learnt more about Australia's history from a book Charmaine illustrated called Charlie's Swim, which details the story of his experiences in Broome during World War II.

PULSE ALIVE TOUR:

Earlier in the year, Year 12 student Jackson Dale was successful after auditioning to be a vocalist for Pulse Alive - a major performing arts event held at Rod Laver Arena. The cast of Pulse Alive then had the opportunity to be part of a regional tour. Congratulations to Jackson for his involvement in the tour to Deniliquin this term.

PARABOLAS, PROBLEM-SOLVING AND SOLAR-POWERED SAUSAGES!

Year 10 Maths Enrichment students explored the locus of the parabola, including how to determine the focal point. Students constructed solar troughs using reflective cardboard and determined the focal point of each parabola. They then attempted to cook sausages at the focal point using the sun. Unfortunately, it was a very cold day, so they will use what they learned about the cooking time this time and try again in warmer weather, in the hope that they can achieve the goal of cooking a sausage at the focus of the parabola.

TIMBER TALENT ON DISPLAY:

Year 11 Industrial Technology Timber students have been diligently creating their major projects – beautifully crafted bedside tables that showcase skills they've developed throughout the year. Starting with the same design concept, they added their own creative touches, producing a collection of unique pieces. Using techniques including hand-cut mortise and tenon joints, dovetail joints, lathe work, parquetry, marquetry, and epoxy river pours with integrated LED lighting, students demonstrated impressive craftsmanship, creativity, and precision.

PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL – CAPTIVATE:

What an incredible two days at the Queanbeyan District Arts Festival, with Karabar proudly represented across various performances. Year 7 and 8 students took to the stage in the PAC item, several of our students performed in the Senior Dance Ensemble, and our whole-school item featured a shortened version of “Little Shop of Horrors”. Behind the scenes, our VET Entertainment students worked tirelessly backstage to keep performances running smoothly. We are incredibly proud of every student involved. Their energy, professionalism, teamwork and commitment were outstanding, and they represented Karabar High School with pride. It was a wonderful celebration of public education during Education Week!

FAMILIAR PLACES, EXTRAORDINARY ART:

Do you recognise these locations? Inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy's site-specific sculptures, Year 11 Visual Arts students were challenged to visualise their school environment with the addition of a unique sculptural piece. Students chose a location that they thought a sculpture would suit. Each sculpture has its own unique concepts behind it and carries stories of the students' experiences and community connection with Karabar High School.
