This is my first article for 2025, offering a commentary on road safety attitudes from the perspective of a heavy vehicle driving instructor – someone responsible for preparing candidates for a high-risk profession. I strongly believe that quality driver training directly contributes to positive road safety outcomes, though proving this connection remains a challenge. Perspectives on road safety vary as widely as the people involved in the industry, but one thing is clear: real change requires a collective shift in attitude. We must stop treating truck-related fatalities and road trauma as just another cost of doing business. A licence to drive is not a qualification. Until we confront this mindset, meaningful reform will remain out of reach. Thank you, Andy Hughes.
