Out & About in Our Community

As part of our sustainability practices, our Harris Park preschoolers have been participating in the Return & Earn program, walking our donated recyclable items into town and turning them into vouchers.
Thanks to the wonderful collective efforts of all our classes, today we cashed out $197.50! 🎉 This will go towards another exciting excursion for the children to enjoy.
A massive thank you to our Harris Park families and wider community for supporting us by dropping off your recyclable items at our preschool collection area. Together, we’re making a difference! 🌏💚♻️

🌿🦆Exploring, Learning & Caring for Our Environment 🦔🌿

Harris Park Preschool is very fortunate to regularly explore our local community through walks and outdoor adventures. These experiences help our children understand the importance of keeping our natural environment clean and caring for the animals and plants that call it home.

Last week, we were delighted to participate in Platypus Talks by the River, proudly run by Queanbeyan Council.

A big thank you to Emery & Mully the Platypus from Queanbeyan Council for their ongoing support and for helping our young citizens learn how caring for our river helps protect platypuses, wildlife and our beautiful natural environment.

With enrolments offers starting up next month, we are sharing our 2027 timetable for families to start making note of classroom/preschool preferences.

QDPA offer a mix of 2 and 3 day programs across our four preschools - some classes do fill up quickly, so we encourage families to have a couple of options ready in case your first option has been taken.

Just a reminder, once you have secured a spot with QDPA, we do not do swaps or changes to other classes or preschools.

Recently, Harris Park Preschool had the wonderful opportunity to explore our wider community through four enriching excursions to Birrigai Outdoor School, learning on Country. Meredith and her team, whom we are fortunate to visit each year, were incredibly supportive as always.
During the bush track experience, the children engaged with four short stories connected to Australian animals and the senses. They followed the story of baby wombat (Megadan), helping to find its mummy by using their sense of smell. They then learnt about the wedge-tailed eagle (Maliyan) and its incredible sense of sight, followed by Buru the kangaroo and its excellent sense of hearing. The children were fascinated to discover that kangaroos can move their ears forwards, backwards and sideways in different directions, and had lots of fun trying it themselves! Lastly, they explored Narang the emu and its strong sense of touch.
The excursions also provided opportunities for the children to immerse themselves in a range of hands on bush experiences, including building bush shelters using sticks, making bush tea, and engaging in nature based exploration and play.
It was a meaningful and engaging program that the children continued exploring back at preschool this week, extending their learning about Australian animals, respecting Country, and investigating their five senses through a variety of experiences.
