Today our children, along with QPRC FDC staff and educators headed down to the Queanbeyan River for some platypus spotting! 🤎

Armed with our self made binoculars, we searched the river from the Suspension Bridge and were VERY excited when we spotted bubbles, then ripples… and finally a real platypus! 🥰

Afterwards, we met Mully the platypus and learnt some fun facts, including that around 7–8 platypus call this stretch of the Queanbeyan River home!

Such a special morning exploring our local community 🍃

Vacancies are available from 1st September and we would love to welcome new little people into our small and friendly Family Day Care.

Available days:

• Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs ~ 1 spot (can be split into two children on consecutive days)

• Wed and Thurs

⏰ Hours: 8am–4pm - (Earlier start time can be considered for individual family circumstances.)

✨ Consecutive days preferred as this helps with settling into care and daily routines for your little ones.

I am also taking interest for children/families for 2027

🌱 Children grow and develop best when they feel safe, secure and supported, and when experiences are guided by their interests, individual needs and hands‑on exploration.

Families are welcome to transition visits to assist children settle confidently and understand our daily rhythm.

I’ve been an educator for 12 years, hold my Diploma, and I’m registered with Queanbeyan‑Palerang Family Day Care.

I believe children grow and develop best when they feel safe, secure and supported, and when experiences are guided by their interests, individual needs and hands‑on exploration.

We enjoy being a part of our community in safe and age appropriate settings such as - Playgroup, Story Time at Queanbeyan Library, local parks, nature play and visits with other educators.

I keep my First Aid & CPR up to date and regularly attend trainings to extend on my knowledge with evolving changes to help provide a safe, nurturing, fun environment for the children.

🚑 🚨 Yesterday we were so lucky to welcome Hayley and Yvette from NSW Ambulance!

The children loved exploring the ambulance, seeing the lights, sitting in the driver’s seat, trying on some of the safety gear and learning about the equipment paramedics use every day to help people in our community.

One of the highlights was spotting 000 on the ambulance and recognising it as the emergency number we practise calling during our fire drills. It was great to see the children making that real-world connection.

Visits like these help children build confidence around emergency services while strengthening their connection to the people who help keep our community safe.

A big thank you to Hayley and Yvette for taking the time to visit us and giving the children such a memorable experience ❤️💙

There was no rush here.

As one child carefully explored the paint between their fingers, another stood nearby eagerly repeating, “My turn, my turn, my turn!”

It would have been easy to hurry the process along, but children deserve the gift of time. Time to think, to experiment, to make decisions, and to become fully absorbed in what they are doing.

When we slow down and resist the urge to rush children from one experience to the next, we send a powerful message: what you are doing right now matters.

The waiting child was supported to wait, and the painting child was supported to continue uninterrupted. Both were learning valuable lessons.

Sometimes the most meaningful learning happens when we simply slow down and allow children the time they need.

At Let Them Be Little, we are All In for Reconciliation.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are embedded into our everyday program through the 8 Ways of Learning framework. Through storytelling, caring for Country, nature play, art, music and community connections, children learn to respect and value the world’s oldest living culture.

This Reconciliation Week, we explored what it means to be kind, respectful and inclusive of others. We are all in for Reconciliation not just during one week of the year, but every day as we learn, play and grow together on Ngunnawal and Ngambri Country 🖤💛❤️

This week we explored the work of Wassily Kandinsky, learning about his unique ideas and artistic methods. We watched a short video that introduced his style and discussed how lines, shapes and colours can hold meaning and express feelings.

The children were especially engaged in conversations about shapes, with a focus on circles. They shared their own ideas about what circles might represent, including the moon, the sun and even car tyres. It was wonderful to see their creativity and imagination come through as they made these connections.

We then explored these concepts through our own abstract paintings using recycled materials. The children experimented with different lines, shapes and textures, expressing their ideas in creative and individual ways.

We also listened to some classical music during the experience, encouraging the children to draw what they felt and heard. This helped create a calm and creative atmosphere, allowing each child to engage with the activity in their own unique way.
