Last week we had a visit from Queanbeyan Fire and Rescue. The children were excited to welcome the firefighters to preschool and learn about fire safety in a fun and engaging way. They discovered the difference between safe and unsafe fires, learnt that 000 is the emergency number to call if they ever need help, and practised what to do if their clothes catch on fire by remembering to "Stop, Drop and Roll," we also learnt about the importance of having a safe family meeting place, such as the letterbox, if there is ever a fire at home. The children were also fascinated to explore the firefighters' protective uniform, look at the fire truck, and to see the specialised equipment firefighters use to help keep our community safe and help save lives. It was a valuable hands-on learning experience that helped build the children's understanding of staying safe in emergencies.
