Year 8 International Exchange | Shanghai

Pymble Year 8 students are in Shanghai on an International Exchange with Shanghai United International School (SUIS).

Our Middle School has a well-established National Exchange Program, and this is the first time we have been able to offer an international exchange to Year 8. The girls are spending their days at SUIS, attending classes alongside their Shanghai peers and experiencing a new culture, language and learning environment first hand.

It is a wonderful opportunity to build independence, make new friendships and grow as global citizens. This inaugural program also strengthens our partnership with SUIS, and the girls are proving to be wonderful ambassadors, embracing every activity on offer.

Pymble Robotics teams had a jam-packed schedule these holidays!

🤖 Pymble’s VEX IQ League held its final competition day during the holidays. Students from Year 5 to Year 10 came in during the holidays to work on their robots, projects and programming. The League final saw 16 Pymble teams compete after four weeks of lunchtime matches. Held in the Junior School Hall, the setting lifted the occasion, and the students took it seriously. They scouted opponents, planned strategy, and arrived at each match on time and ready. Congratulations to our VEX IQ League award winners!

🤖 Three Year 7 and 8 teams attended their first-ever VEX V5 event at Knox Grammar School competing against 21 other Middle and High School teams from Knox Grammar School, Barker College, The King’s School, Newington College and Reddam House North Shore. For most of our students it was their first competition, and they were respectful and passionate throughout. Congratulations to 65100B Team June, who took home the Judges Award.

Thank you to Knox Grammar School, the Event Organiser and all the volunteers, whose hard work made it a great competition for our students.

Future Solutions Day💡

In the last week of Term 3, Year 5 students from Pymble Ladies’ College and Knox Grammar Preparatory School became Future Solution Finders for Ku-ring-gai Council at our inaugural Future Solutions Day: Operation Green Future. They were given environmental and sustainability issues faced by Ku-ring-gai Council and asked to come up with a solution.

Teams of four opened sealed mission envelopes and tackled real environmental challenges in Waterways,  Pollinators, and Canopy and Green Energy. Each new envelope brought fresh data and a fast pivot, while teams built LEGO mascots, tested soil filtration, built bee hotels and raced solar cars. They then pitched a grant bid to win council backing. Successful teams will be awarded:

Most Innovative Design
Most Sustainable Solution
Comprehensive Solution Finder

Successful teams will be notified and invited to a special awards ceremony hosted by Pymble, Knox and Ku-ring-gai Council in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to find out who they are!

This September, our Vietnam Service Trip students travelled to a village in Ha Giang, northern Vietnam, to build an outdoor library for the local kindergarten.

In the heat, the group laid bricks, rendered walls, mixed and poured cement, and painted. Each day, the space grew into a place where the village's youngest learners will be able to read, play and dream.

Just as memorable were the moments spent in the classroom with the children, where laughter, games and singing needed no translation.

Along the way, the girls also explored Hanoi's historic landmarks, trekked through rice paddies, shared meals with host families and cruised the limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay. But the hard work and the connections made in the village will stay with them the longest.

We are proud of this group for making a lasting contribution by building something the village will use for years.
