This month our Wildthings subscribers (2-4 year olds) received Kevin, by Rob Biddulph and This is Not My Hat, by Jon Klassen. Subscribers also received all the bits and pieces to role-play the elements of honesty (or lack of!) from This is Not My Hat, and magic noodles to create their own imagination friend!
The story Kevin, by Rob Biddulph follows a little boy called Sidney. Sidney is always in trouble and to make matters worse, he insists on blaming the mess he makes on his invisible friend – Kevin. This, however, changes when Sidney actually meets Kevin and discovers what it is like to be on the receiving end of bad behaviour. In a magical world of make-believe, Sidney finally comes to realise that he's been selfish and resolves to put things right for both his invisible friend and his very own mum. This is a beautiful story about honesty and telling the truth.
This is Not My Hat by Jon Klassen is a fun and humorous story about a little fish that steals a hat from a bigger fish. The little fish runs away and hides from the big fish, thinking that he won't get caught. The little fish even goes as far as trying to convince a crab to lie for him. The illustrations in this book are fun and insightful, depicting details and expression that adds that extra bit of humour and intrigued. A fun story, about honesty, right and wrong.
