📢 Referrals are now open for Working Together – Supporting Early Learning in 2027

We are pleased to share that Working Together will again be offering up to 220 free early learning placements across Tasmania in 2027.
Working Together supports eligible children in their year before Kindergarten by providing:
✅ 2–3 days of free early learning (sometimes known as childcare) each week.
✅ Support for families to participate in the program.
✅ Access to a welcoming early learning environment that helps children build confidence.
With the consent of the parent or carer, referrals can be submitted by any community service or organisation through our online referral form. Families and carers are also welcome to self-refer.
📍 Places are available through participating services across the North-West, North, Midlands, East and South of Tasmania.

Ever had one of those "What should I be doing with my child?" moments? You might already have the answer at home.

Earlier this year, every Goodstart family received a What & When for Families guide for each child. If it's been tucked away in a drawer since then, now might be the perfect time to pull it back out.

The guide is packed with simple, play-based activities that support your child's learning and development at home. Best of all, it's written in your child's voice, with ideas tailored to their age and developmental stage.

From singing songs with babies and playing peek-a-boo, to "I Spy" games, storytelling and treasure hunts with older children, the activities are designed to fit naturally into everyday moments you already share together.

We know learning doesn't only happen in the classroom. Those small moments at home can help build big communication, language and literacy skills.

The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.

When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:

💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.

💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.

NAIDOC Week 2026 at Goodstart Prospect Vale.

NAIDOC Week 2026 is celebrated across Australia from 5–12 July 2026. This annual event recognises and celebrates the history, culture, achievements, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2026 theme, “50 Years of Deadly,” marks a significant milestone, commemorating five decades of NAIDOC Week celebrations and recognising the strength, resilience, and achievements of First Nations communities.

At Prospect Vale, we have recently began celebrating Floral Fridays 🌸
Floral Friday is a cultural initiative where people wear vibrant, floral-patterned clothing to celebrate and honor Torres Strait Islander culture. We invite all of our children to wear floral every Friday! The children and educators have also been learning Taba Naba, a traditional Torres Strait Islander song 🎶

PLAYGROUP UPDATE:

We have decided to cancel our Wednesday play group over the winter months as we find the attendance drops over this period.
We will start it up again once the weather starts warming up in October but we will keep you posted with the date.
