As we move through the winter illness season, we are sharing these "Time Out" resources with families as a reminder of the importance of keeping unwell children at home.

Exclusion periods help reduce the spread of illness and protect the health and wellbeing of all children, educators and families within our service. While we understand that staying home can be inconvenient, following recommended exclusion periods is one of the most effective ways to prevent outbreaks and keep our community healthy.

Contact your educator if you are unsure whether your child should attend care or require clarification on exclusion periods.

Thank you for helping us create a safe and healthy environment for everyone.

🐑 The learning continues at Dimple’s Daycare! 🐑

Inspired by their recent visits to fellow educator Helen’s Family Day Care and meeting baby Veranda the lamb, Dimple and her children have continued to explore sheep-themed learning through their everyday experiences. 💕

It’s wonderful to see how connecting with other educators and sharing experiences can spark curiosity and inspire learning that continues long after the visit. 🌿🐑

🦷✨ Dental Week Fun at Kelly’s Family Day Care! ✨🦷

Today I visited Kelly to see her amazing Dental Week program in action. The children have been learning all about teeth, dental hygiene and healthy choices through songs, hands-on experiences and fun activities.

Over the past few weeks, Kelly has created opportunities for children to practise brushing giant model teeth, explore dental learning in the tuff tray and learn about how much sugar is hidden in everyday foods. The children were amazed to discover that some foods contain more sugar than expected!

To extend this learning, Kelly invited local dental professionals Dentist Luke and Hygienist Ellie from Airlie Smiles Care to visit. The children learned why brushing for two minutes is important, what happens when we visit the dentist and how dentists help keep our teeth healthy.

The children confidently asked questions, practised brushing the model teeth and learned that a dental visit can be a positive experience. Each child also received a dental pack to continue encouraging healthy habits at home, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a two-minute timer.

A huge thank you to Kelly for creating such a meaningful learning experience and to Airlie Smiles Care for helping children feel comfortable and confident about looking after their smiles! 🪥😁

Educator Miss Dimple recently took her family day care children to visit fellow educator Helen, where they had the chance to meet the adorable baby lamb, Veranda! The children loved getting up close, gently interacting with Veranda and learning about caring for animals.

These visits are also a wonderful example of educator networking, where our educators support one another, share ideas and create meaningful learning opportunities for the children in their care. Building these connections helps strengthen our Family Day Care community while creating memories the children will treasure.

🌱 From One Pumpkin to Many Learning Opportunities! 🎃at Rose's Busy Bees Family Day Care

Sometimes the richest learning begins with the simplest moments.

While Rose and the children were busy carving pumpkins for the Burdekin Show, fellow educator Lisa called. Rose put the phone on speaker so the children could proudly share their experience. A child in care enthusiastically explained how they had carved the pumpkins and then he asked Lisa if she would like some pumpkin seeds.

The seeds were carefully dried and a few weeks later, the child remembered his promise. He decorated a special bag, carefully placed the seeds inside and Rose delivered them to Lisa. What a beautiful example of kindness, responsibility and following through on a commitment.

Not long afterwards, the child discovered a tiny pumpkin seed sprouting in the sandpit! This exciting discovery sparked even more curiosity, so the children planted pumpkin seeds into growing bags and proudly hung them on the playroom door. Over the past week, they’ve watched in amazement as the seedlings have grown bigger each day. Now they’re discussing whether to take them home to plant or continue growing them together here at family day care.

Inspired by the pumpkin seeds, two other children in care decided they wanted to grow something too. They carefully cut open a rockmelon, collected the seeds and planted them into their own growing bags, proudly hanging them alongside the pumpkins.

💚 Learning through play:
• Developing an understanding of the life cycle of plants and what they need to grow.
• Building responsibility by caring for living things over time.
• Strengthening memory, planning and follow-through by remembering and honouring a promise.
• Encouraging communication and confidence through sharing experiences with others.
• Exploring sustainability by collecting, saving and reusing seeds.
• Supporting decision-making as children discuss where and how to continue growing their plants.
• Fostering curiosity, patience and a love of nature through hands-on investigation.

It’s wonderful to see how one simple pumpkin carving activity has blossomed into weeks of meaningful learning, friendships, generosity and discovery. 🌱💚
