Are you Deaf and interested in teaching English to Deaf migrants?

In 2024 the Box Hill Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) ran a pilot English course for Deaf migrants.

This course was very successful so the course will continue as an ongoing course in 2025. This is excellent news because it means Deaf migrants have an English course that is taught in Auslan.

AMEP wants to develop a second course for people ready to progress in their English study. AMEP is therefore looking for a second Deaf teacher.

The role will start in April 2025.

If you are interested and would like to know more, please contact:

deafConnectEd congratulates Box Hill AMEP on the success and growth of this program.

Inclusive pathways University of Melbourne research project 2025 17/02/2025

https://vimeo.com/1052177794

Hello! I’m Catherine Miller and I’m doing some work for the University of Melbourne with Kate Leigh and Sharon Klieve on a project with TAFE students.

You might remember some time ago Philip Waters did a video promoting their research and encouraging deaf students currently attending TAFE to get in touch and participate? If you haven’t, not to worry, there is link below.

Philip explained the project was focused on the experience of current TAFE students – before, during and after their studies. The aim of the project is to provide the best opportunities and support the best outcomes for future TAFE students.

The reason I’m making this video is because I will be the interviewer and I will be asking questions about your experiences. It will be a relaxed interview, don’t worry, not like a job interview! For those who aren’t familiar with me, I am Deaf myself and from a Deaf family so if you are worried about communication and needing interpreters, well, you don’t need to worry about that!

If you have any questions and you want to ask them in Auslan, and/or you want to participate, please do get in touch with me at this address: [email protected] and we can arrange a time to meet on Zoom.

If at any time throughout the process you change your mind, you can withdraw, but hopefully you will get involved!

Bye!
