In this fortnight’s edition, Mr Davidson celebrates the resilience, persistence and achievements of our students across the classroom, cross country track, soccer field and our wonderful Girraween excursion.

A big congratulations and good luck to Matthew, who will represent Pozieres at the Darling Downs Cross Country trials next Tuesday. We are all behind you! 👏

Pozieres students had a wonderful day spending time at Girraween National Park yesterday. Our visit will inspire students to create imaginative narrative texts set in our very own Granite Belt backyard. Thank you also to the team at Ashbern Farms who treated us to a farm tour and delicious ice cream!

Imagine learning in a space like this!
Our students in Years 1-3 are enjoying spending time in our “Are We There Yet?” swag. This, along with our learning wall, has inspired students and engaged them in a rich and innovative teaching and learning process.

Today, on ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice and service of all Australians and New Zealanders who have served our nation.

For Pozieres State School, this day holds special meaning. Our school and community carry the name Pozieres, commemorating the Battle of Pozières in France during World War I — one of the most significant and costly battles for Australian forces. The district itself was named in honour of that history, and our school proudly continues that legacy of remembrance.

Today, our school community will proudly attend the Stanthorpe ANZAC Day March and Commemorative Service, where our student leaders have the honour of laying a wreath on behalf of Pozieres State School. The Stanthorpe march is scheduled to commence at 10:30am, followed by the service at Weeroona Park.

We remember those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today, and we thank all past and present service men and women.

Another fabulous morning at Pozieres! Thank you to Teena Wilcock, Brett Boatfield and Paula Boatfield from the Stanthorpe Show Society who came to talk to students about the significance of the Stanthorpe Show, and how it has changed from past to present. We are humbled by the support of our local community in enriching the education of our students. Our small but mighty school is thriving because of you!

Today, students participated in our very own “Granite Belt Blind Tasting”. This culminating learning experience helped them to apply their knowledge of the produce of our local region whilst also perfecting the art of persuasion. Following tasting, our legendary learners composed persuasive texts encouraging others to visit our region and taste these delicacies! Thank you immensely to the following local businesses for their generous donations, and to Mr Davidson, our butler!
❤️Suttons Juice Factory for their delicious apple pie
❤️ Stanthorpe Cheese Factory and Jersey Girls Cafe
❤️ Ashbern Farms (including a punnet of fresh strawberries for each family to take home)
❤️Jamworks
❤️Savio Family apples

Our students spent their morning today giving back to the wonderful members of our community who made the Apple and Grape Festival 2026 such a great success. With a nod to the rich history of Pozieres, and the work of Mr Max McMahon in establishing this event, students were able to develop a deeper understanding of how this event has helped to promote the many aspects of the place we get to call home. Thank you to Samantha and Russell Wantling for all that you have done, and for our Apple and Grape hats!

Pozieres Press – Issue #12 is now available!

In this fortnight’s edition, Mr Davidson shares another fun challenge from the classroom asking students what sound the ‘u’ makes in guacamole. Just one example of the engaging learning happening in our Year 4-6 classroom.

Our Year 1-3 students have also been busy creating a vibrant apple tree Learning Wall, helping students see what quality work looks like and how they can improve their learning.

You’ll also find:
📚 A special visit from local community member Mr Peter Watters sharing stories of Pozieres’ early history
📅 Upcoming events including the Apple & Grape Festival Grand Parade, Emu Gully Camp and NAPLAN

Pozieres Press – Issue #11 is now available!

In this fortnight’s newsletter, Mr Davidson shares a wonderful (and very real!) classroom moment that highlights just how tricky the English language can be – and why explicit phonics instruction matters.

This year, we are strengthening our whole-school approach to Systematic Synthetic Phonics, helping students build confidence in reading, spelling and writing step by step. From decoding sounds to mastering “heart words,” our focus is on getting the basics right and ensuring skills transfer into authentic writing.

You’ll also find updates on:
📅 Upcoming events including the Year 6 Leadership Conference, Emu Gully Camp and NAPLAN
👩‍🏫 Our 2026 class teacher structure
📖 A closer look at what explicit teaching looks like at Pozieres

We’re proud of the strong learning culture developing across our school and look forward to sharing more with our community next term.
