It's not your fault. You've been conditioned that being busy and constantly 'doing' things means you will get ahead in life. You have to 'take action' - Remember the saying 'time waits for no man' ?? This was one my Mummy always said. So from a young age in the home, at school, and then our first introduction to the 'working world' we were told you have to be 'productive' and basically work hard to get on. So when you're being told to stop for a minute and slow down, the mind become agitated. It wants stimulation, events, conversation, scrolling. But let me tell you. If you stopped to read my words then you are realising that this uncomfortability within is false. You see... if we only wait to rest when we hit the pillow at night for 6-8 hours, the dreams that we have may appear less than peaceful. Why? because our mind is constantly racing throughout the day, collecting information, fuelling emotions, moving fast, fast, fast, fast - and maybe even fuelled by coffee to make it even faster. These dreams are made up of our subconscious.
So why don't you STOP just for a moment and notice how you're breathing... is it fast and shallow? - into your chest? notice the air coming in through your nose. Now focus on it moving and allow it to travel into your belly. Feel your belly rise and continue to trace it - in through the nose and out through the nose. Then slow your breathing down. And yes your mind is telling you. "I don't have time for this" But trust me... whatever you feel you need to be doing right now can take 5 minutes for you to catch your breath. Do that and concentrate solely on that ... how does it make you feel now?
You see... that feeling of being of uncomfortable is just habit, based on what you've been told and how you've felt that moving through life needs constant 'effort' - but look at that word 'effort' - And here's the definition that jumped out for me amongst the ones that stated that 'effort is what you need to get the job done' - Now look at this - 'a force exerted by a machine or in a process.' Same word, different context.. . but to me it's the same context. 'Force' - and you're not machine are you. xx
