This week ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ is our mat time and programmed sensory experience.

At mat time this week we will be reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. To extend on this story, a sensory based experience will be set up each day in the afternoon for children’s learning and development.

Outcome 4- Children are confident and involved learners.
Outcome 5- Children are effective communicators.

🤍Mat time and Sensory Experience🤍

The babies room have recently introduced a sensory experience extension connected to our mat time visual songs. During this month’s program cycle, we will be exploring “5 little ducks” and “The Hungry Caterpillar”.

Our program will change each month, giving the children opportunity to engage with a variety of songs alongside sensory experiences, which support their learning and development.

We are excited to watch the children explore and engage in fun and messy play, but also engage with singing, laughing and social interactions during mat time.

We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended our Quiz Night fundraiser Wednesday night. It was a fantastic turn out. We hope you all had a great evening. We would also like to thank everyone who made donations (full list below), as well as our quiz night committee for all their hard work, the Lions Football Club for the use of their venue, and Lorraine for making rat bait. The night was a great success with money raised going toward new resources and equipment for our Centre.

The quiz was fought out between 10 teams with Panthers victorious in a tie breaker. Congratulations Panthers!
1st – Panthers = 77 points
2nd – Chaos Coordinators = 77 points
3rd – Slow Cookers = 74 points
4th – Goods = 72 points
5th – Mediocre at Best = 69.5 points
6th – The Odd Bunch = 67 points
7th – Licorice Allsorts = 66 points
8th – PPCCC = 64 points
9th – The Dirty Diapers = 57 points
10th – We Thought This Was Bingo = 56 points

Some stats from the quiz:
-Without cheats in play, Slow Cookers would have won with 67 points – The BTS bonus round would have just got them over the line.
-Only 2 teams achieved a perfect round with all answers correct (without cheats). Round 1: Bluey – PPCCC,
Round 3: The Wiggles – The Odd Bunch.
-Worksheets - Only Panthers and Chaos Coordinators knew all of the collective nouns for animals, while all 10 teams knew their balls.

Kindy Dishes - 💦🍽️
We have implemented a new routine to our Kindy Room!
We have started encouraging the children to wash their own dishes after lunch time. A little bit of soapy water, some sponges and a lot of benefits to this simple routine practice.

Involving children in washing dishes builds spacial awareness, independence, fine motor skills, life skills, such as self-care and responsibility.

Learning Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Kindy & Toddler families - McNally Farm Excursion 🐷

On the 19th of August, we are planning an excursion to McNally Farm. The bus will arrive at the centre at 10:35am, so please have your children at the centre by 9:30am, so the educators can get your child prepared for the day ahead. We will arrive back at the Childcare Centre at approx. 11:35am.

We encourage children to wear a jacket and boots, as the ground can become muddy and slippery if it has been raining.

ADAI will be in Port Pirie at the Local Library on Thursday, 6th August from 9:00-12:00pm. Anyone can drop in and connect with us.

ADAI offer free short term, issue specific advocacy support for individuals of all ages in South Australia. We seek to encourage, empower and support people with disability towards independence through self-advocacy. We provide information on opportunities for people with disability to gain the skills to advocate for themselves.

Today the babies will be exploring, discovering and learning through these fun play based learning experiences.

⭐️Exploring reflections with our mirror and loose parts tunnel.
⭐️Sensory discovery blocks with colourful translucent resources.
⭐️Cosy quiet time in our reading nook, encouraging relaxation and reading.
⭐️Sensory play with shaving foam and links for fine motor development.
⭐️Building, creating and problem solving through open-ended play experiences.
⭐️Climbing frame for gross motor development.

These thoughtfully planned experiences support children’s cognitive, physical, language and social development while encouraging them to explore the world around them.
