We are very proud to have received two National Architecture Awards for our amazing Environmental Arts Hub! 🎉
Our Environmental Arts Hub has just received two National Architecture Awards!
National Award for Educational Architecture and the Lachlan Macquarie Award for Heritage Architecture.
The Environmental Arts Hub Campus was conceived to complement Albert Park College’s pioneering Year 9 Da Vinci Program. Two big themes dominate the program’s curriculum and are embodied in the new Hub - a dual focus on environmental science and the arts.
The Hub is an adaptive reuse of two significant heritage listed buildings – the Sandridge Post and Telegraph Office (JJ Clarke 1862) and Naval Drill Hall (JS Murdoch 1912). The design highlights heritage qualities through the recycling and exposure of original materials: doors are used as bench tops and the original floor of the Naval Drill Hall has been repurposed as wall cladding. While overlaying modern elements, the Hall was in turn preserved as an emblematic performing and teaching space. Designed by Six Degrees Architects the Hub also features an in-house sustainable student run café, collaborative learning spaces, a marine laboratory and sustainable energy and heating systems.
The building acts to serve the local community, fittingly, as our own community fundraised to complete the project. This, in turn, positions the College as “a shining example of how heritage places can be creatively adapted to take on new and important roles in their communities” – Jury Chair Report, Heritage Architecture
Congratulations to everyone involved in this project, we are very proud! 🎉👏

Our Environmental Arts Hub has just received an array of Government and Architectural Awards for the creation of a learning space that highlights the building’s rich heritage.
The campus received two ‘Named Awards” – the highest tier of recognition at the 2017 Victorian Architecture Awards (Vic Chapter Aus Institute of Architects) and two Gold Awards at the Government Design Awards 2016 (Driven x Design).
The new buildings at 40 Bay St Port Melbourne embody the College’s values, reflecting the school’s focus on community involvement, environmental sustainability and cutting edge education. The Hub was curated to house the College’s innovative Year 9 Da Vinci Program.
Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved!

Year 9 students are exhibiting work in the 'Creatures of the Bay' exhibition at Gasworks Arts Park until July 2. Students have collected single use plastic items from our beaches and surrounding streets to create sculptures and artworks to represent our local marine environment.
