ompleted her Bachelor of Education, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Special Education. Chris left the classroom to start a family, and completed her Masters in Special Education at the same time. Chris commenced private practice in 1994 working with students with learning problems. She was the coordinator of the SPELD Victoria Learning Centre for over 8 years, and has trained students studying Special Education at Melbourne University. With over 25 years experience she has developed simple, yet effective, teaching strategies that have achieved amazing results with her students. She has an abundance of enthusiasm and creativity, which are displayed in her teaching methods and presentations. She is a regular presenter at SPELD and LDA events. Chris has combined her years of experience and her creative ideas into her Grammar Magic and Dynamic Dice books, which provide practical methods for achieving results. Chris’s teaching program and principles compliment the Spalding methods. Chris has been a “Literate for Life, LEM Phonic” trained instructor. LEM Phonics is an intensive phonics program that teaches the student the skills of communication - listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling. It uses a multi-sensory approach, using explicit teaching and analytical thinking to promote understanding of all words taught, not rote learning. Using the phonograms and rules, the student is able to make sense of the English language, which is generally considered inconsistent. Chris’s colour coded approach to Grammar compliments the Literate for Life LEM Phonics program and will be part of this world wide program.
