The ending feels like a beginning.
Today was the final Writing for Well-Being workshop, and my heart is full of gratitude.
Over these past weeks, I have witnessed beautiful stories, heartfelt writing, courage, laughter, reflection, and creativity unfolding in so many different ways. Thank you to everyone who showed up, put pen to paper, and shared pieces of themselves with the group.
What a gift it has been to write alongside you.
As we celebrated today, I was reminded that every ending carries the seed of a new beginning. The creative journey continues, and so does the story. CreativityForWellbeing ReflectiveWriting Journaling

Hi everyone, my name is Alice. I am a writer, creative facilitator, and founder of the Blue Feather Writing Circle based in Port Macquarie. My workshops are shaped by a deep belief that writing is more than a creative practice — it is a way of listening to ourselves, reconnecting with the world around us, and creating spaces for reflection, imagination, healing, and community.
I grew up in a small village in southern China surrounded by mountains, rivers, rice fields. My childhood was deeply connected to nature and the quiet rhythms of village life. From a young age, I was fascinated by dreams and began keeping notebooks beside my bed to write down dream fragments, images, and feelings when I woke in the night.
When I moved to Australia almost twenty years ago, writing became an important way for me to navigate change, belonging, memory, and identity. After experiencing the 2019 bushfires, I found myself returning even more deeply to writing as a place of grounding and reflection. Through journaling, poetry, and storytelling, I began to understand creativity not as something separate from everyday life, but as something essential — a way of processing experience, staying connected to ourselves, and finding meaning during uncertain times.
On May 22, 2024, I felt a clear inspiration to create a space where others could share their truths and stories through writing. That night, I dreamt of finding two one-metre-long blue feathers, radiant in the sunlight, filling me with joy. In the days that followed, I shared this vision with a friend, and during our conversation a lyrebird sang nearby — an unusual occurrence at that hour. My friend gently said the bird’s song felt like a sign that I was on the right path. I chose to listen to that moment of encouragement, and shortly after, I founded the Blue Feather Writing Circle.
My workshops are designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone, including people who have never written creatively before. I focus less on technique and perfection, and more on helping participants reconnect with their own voice, imagination, memories, emotions, and sensory experiences. I often use embodied writing exercises, storytelling prompts, nature-based reflections, and quiet observation to support a slower, more present way of writing.
A large part of my work explores the relationship between creativity and the natural world. Through projects such as Love Letters to Nature, I invite participants to slow down and deepen their relationship with place, memory, community, and the environment through writing.
My facilitation is influenced by deep ecology, Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects, and community storytelling practices. I am drawn to spaces where people can write and speak honestly, listen deeply, and discover unexpected meaning in their own lived experience. Some participants come carrying long-held creative dreams, while others come looking for connection, inspiration, reflection, or simply permission to begin.
Alongside workshops, I have also developed collaborative community projects and exhibitions where writing becomes part of a shared creative process. In some projects, participants’ writings are used as inspiration for local visual artists, creating conversations between words, art, memory, and community experience. I am passionate about creating opportunities for ordinary voices and stories to be seen, heard, and valued.
I am also currently running a Writing for Well-being workshop at Roto House, supported by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council and Arts Mid North Coast. This is a gentle, welcoming creative writing session designed for everyone — no writing experience needed. We slow down, settle in, and explore simple writing practices that help us reconnect with our thoughts, memories, imagination, and inner voice. Through guided prompts and quiet reflection, participants are supported to write in a way that feels easy, open, and pressure-free. Whether you are completely new to writing or already enjoy it, you are warmly welcome to join us
