Today marks the one year anniversary of the passing of O-Hanshi Kevin. Founder of Kumiai Ryu Martial Arts System, Husband, Father, Uncle, Mentor, Friend… the list goes on.
O-Hanshi inspired others not just in Martial Arts but in Life. His guiding hand build a path for others that they wouldn’t have ever dreamed of. O-Hanshi would always be ready to help where needed and did it without wanting anything in return, and to quote,
‘It was never about me, it was always about you.’
Thank you, O-Hanshi, for forging the path & building such a wonderful club & martial arts legacy. Rest easy knowing what you built will endure forever. Osu!

Confidence isn’t something children are born with—it’s something they build, one small success at a time.
At Kumiai Ryu Martial Arts Port Macquarie, we focus on much more than punches and kicks. Every class is designed to help children develop confidence, resilience, respect, patience, and the courage to keep trying, even when something feels difficult.
Yesterday’s lesson was a perfect example. Our students worked on balance by slowly and carefully kicking over kick pads. It wasn’t about who could kick the hardest or the fastest—it was about control, focus, and believing in themselves. As they succeeded, you could see their confidence grow with every attempt.
These are the moments that build strong character. Learning to stay balanced, remain patient, listen, and persevere are skills that help children not only in martial arts but also at school, at home, and throughout life.
We’re incredibly proud of every child who steps onto the mats and gives their best. Strong bodies are important, but strong character lasts a lifetime.
🥋 If you’re looking for an activity that helps your child grow in confidence while having fun and learning valuable life skills, we’d love to welcome you to our dojo.

It’s been a huge weekend for the KRMAS family, members of the Port Macquarie Dojo headed to Coolum Beach to attend the Winter Camp. Students and instructors took part in in training seminars conducted by many Seniors of KRMAS across Australia and by Shihan Paul Cale. To finish off the weekend, four students jumped into the grading that they have been preparing for the past few months. Now Kru Roi James achieved his Red Badge in Muay Thai, Sempai Mathew has moved to 1st Kyu in Karate, and Sempai’s Lachlan and Emily have successfully transitioned from the Little Ninjas Syllabus to the Adults Karate Syllabus, graded to 2nd Kyu. Congratulations to all, you have done your Dojo Proud!

It’s hard to find the words, but the following message from O-Hanshi’s family has said it perfectly
“There is a rare kind of person who enters our lives not to change the world around us, but to change the world within us.
O-Hanshi Kevin Blundell was that rare light.
He took the ancient wisdom of martial arts, forged his own style and translated it into a language of the heart.
His greatest mastery wasn't found in physical strength, but in his infinite patience, his laughter, and his unwavering belief that every person who walked through the Kumiai Ryu doors could become a better version of themselves.
He didn't just teach us how to move; he taught us how to stand, side by side with courage & determination.
Today marks a profound milestone, his very first birthday celebrated across the veil.
Though our eyes can no longer see him, our hearts feel the space he carved out for each & every one of us.
We send our deepest love & gratitude into the quiet expanse, wishing O-Hanshi eternal happiness and peace.
Happy Birthday, O-Hanshi Kevin. Your family carries your warmth, today and always.
Osu!”

Mayhem results!!!
So proud of the girls who challenged themselves again in the ring!
Tayla faced a strong opponent from Edgeworth who came out aggressively from the opening bell. Tayla responded with powerful combinations and heavy strikes that repeatedly forced her opponent into the clinch. Demonstrating courage and determination throughout the contest, Tayla pushed the pace and showcased her power, but ultimately lost a closely contested bout via split decision.
Josie also faced a challenging opponent from Forster. Her opponent came out swinging and applied constant pressure, but Josie regained composure. Utilising strong knees and elbows in the clinch, she controlled key exchanges throughout the fight. In another closely contested battle, Josie was rewarded with a split-decision victory.
Win, Lose or Draw, only few actually step up and face these challenges. It takes a brave heart and solid mind to step into the ring, by facing these challenges and getting comfortable in the uncomfortable you already won. Well done girls!
