In April 2023, important changes to Commonwealth Work Health and Safety laws came into place.
the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 prescribe how employers must identify and manage hazards and risks to workers’ psychological health and safety.
A code of practice applies to anyone who has a duty of care in the circumstances described in the Code of Practice. In most cases, an approved code of practice will assist duty holders in achieving compliance with health and safety duties in the WHS Act and WHS Regulation concerning the codes subject matter.

Codes of practice are admissible in court proceedings under the WHS Act and WHS Regulations. Courts may regard a code of practice as evidence of what is known about a hazard, risk or control and may rely on the code in determining what is reasonably practicable in the circumstances to which the code relates. Remote and isolated work includes: − all-night convenience store and service station attendants − sales representatives, including real estate agents − long-distance freight transport drivers − scientists, park rangers and others carrying out fieldwork alone or in remote locations, and − health and community workers working in isolation with members of the public. Remote or isolated work means work that is isolated from the assistance of others because of the location, time or nature of the work. It often involves long travel times, poor access to resources, or limited communications. It can be workers who are working from home, working after hours or working alone.
Our 3-hour workshop focuses on identifying how to identify physical and psychosocial hazards in remote and isolated work and how to manage these hazards.
