Talking about money isn’t my favourite topic, but why I charge what I charge is a question that sometimes comes up, so here’s my honest answer. 💬
Not every student needs a tutor with teaching qualifications and years of experience, and that’s okay. A university student or recent school leaver can be a great fit for some kids, often at a lower price.
But if you want a qualified teacher with years of tutoring experience, you can expect to pay a bit more. The hour you see is only part of the work. Behind every lesson I plan, prepare resources, review my students’ work, and work out what each of them needs next. Like most tutors, I spend far more time on that than I do in the session itself.
When you’re choosing a tutor, ask:
✔️ What experience do they have with your child’s year level?
✔️ How do they plan lessons around your child’s specific gaps?
✔️ How will they keep you updated on progress?
✔️ Does your child feel comfortable asking them questions?
The right tutor isn’t always the cheapest or the most expensive. It’s the one who fits your child. 🌱
