COVID-19 SCHOOL UPDATE: RETURNING TO SCHOOL...

Dear PLHS parent/caregivers,

Earlier today, the Premier announced that schools, preschools and children’s centres will reopen to all students tomorrow (Wednesday July 28th).

Accordingly, Port Lincoln High School will be open. We will not be offering an alternative home-based learning program, unless your child is impacted by SA Health quarantine orders.

As our Chief Public Health Officer said, just because the hard lockdown is being lifted does not mean that the risks associated with COVID-19 have passed. As a result, we will:
* minimise the number of people coming and going from our site; wherever possible, please drop off and collect your child at the gate and maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults
* postpone all school events, excursions and camps for the next week
* require all staff and students in Years 8 and above to wear masks when indoors or on school buses; please note that staff will not have to wear masks while teaching or working directly with students

Students can wear their own cloth masks; we will also have supplies of surgical masks available as required.

Your child might have questions about wearing masks. It is important that we continue to follow SA Health advice; your continued cooperation is greatly appreciated as we assist students and staff with this necessary change.

The TLC will be closed on Monday June 7 for staff training.

NEW SIGNAGE FOR TLC...

In what has been a very busy period for our Transition & Learning Centre (TLC), the Edinburgh Street facility has recently been given an updated look through the installation of some fresh signage (pictured).

The graphics for the striking new look were designed by Year 12 Design student Ethan Cowley, as one of his two major practical projects for the year. The logo uses a series of arrowheads to symbolise transition and the search for alternative pathways, with the red arrow highlighting the learning focus that the TLC provides.

The new branding has been very well received - congratulations to Ethan and the TLC staff/students on this successful collaboration.

This semester students at TAFE propagated plant seedlings and cuttings to sell at a Pop up Plant Store to learn skills like business practices and regulations, public communication, marketing and retail sales. The day of the sale was cold, wet and windy, however the students raised $150.00 and decided to donate the money to Matthew Flinders Nursing Home.

Residents of Matthew Flinders were invited to TAFE for morning tea to hand over the funds raised. The students did an amazing job of implementing Covid Safe measures, setting up the room, welcoming the MFH residents, serving tea and scones and explaining how the money was raised. The interaction between students and residents was special to watch and they chatted for a couple of hours. The students heard many stories of the residents’ younger days and discussed comparisons to life then and now.
