A huge step forward for allied health students across Australia! 🎉

From 1 July 2027, the Commonwealth Prac Payment will expand to 10 additional allied health professions, helping ease the financial burden of mandatory clinical placements.

At Pilbara Health Futures, we know how important it is to remove financial barriers to healthcare education — particularly for students completing placements in rural and regional communities, where travel, accommodation and time away from paid work can add significant costs.

Supporting students through placement means supporting the future of our healthcare workforce. This is a fantastic and long-awaited step in the right direction. 👏

🥗 What Does a Dietitian Do? 🥗

Dietitians play a vital role in helping people improve their health through evidence-based nutrition advice. They work with individuals and communities to create practical strategies that support wellbeing, prevent disease, and improve quality of life.

They may:
✨ Provide personalised nutrition advice
✨ Manage specialised diets for different health conditions
✨ Support long-term health goals
✨ Help people develop healthier relationships with food

From hospitals and clinics to schools and rural health services, dietitians make a meaningful difference by helping people understand the connection between nutrition and health.

If you’re passionate about science, health, and supporting people, a career as a Dietitian could be a rewarding pathway. With growing demand across rural Western Australia, there are exciting opportunities to make an impact where it matters most.

We are burning out our future healthcare workers before they even start their careers serving Australians.

OT, psychology, physio, pharmacy, medical, podiatry, radiography, osteo, EP, audiology, vet and optometry students undertake 100s (sometimes 1000s) of hours of unpaid placement.

And we know from data out of La Trobe Uni that shows 54% of their students on pracs are skipping meals.

The Govt has already established a scheme for nurses, midwives, teachers and social workers. Dr Haines and I are urging them to go one step further and expand it to all healthcare students.

The petition is still open, if you want to sign. Link in bio.
