Good afternoon PHSOTA community,
On ANZAC Day 2024 I turned 60 years old, which was a bit of a shock!!!
Although I still very much enjoy being at the school daily, I’ve been working full time since mid-1985 and have taken the decision to retire from my principal role at Port Hedland SOTA by the end of Term 3, 2024. When I have an exact date that will be supplied. There are leave entitlements, superannuation etc. to consider as part of this exercise.
The Department of Education will conduct a process over the ensuing period to find a suitably credentialled principal, and that normally involves a parent representative on the panel eg. P&C president or School Council chair.
I commenced teaching in 1985. My first principal position was in 1997 at Roelands PS, now River Valley PS in Burekup. I mainly worked in large mainstream schools ie. Eaton PS and Highgate PS before transferring into this context. From 2009 – 2010 I was principal at Kimberley SOTA and started as principal at Port Hedland SOTA in 2011.
There have been so many highlights during the SOTA journey, the main being seeing our students achieve their dreams with most staying in touch with the school after graduating. We have pastoralists, artists, veterinarians, doctors, station hands, neurosurgeons, soldiers, agronomists, pilots, accountants, nurses, mechanics, lawyers, actors and Taylor Swift fans to name just a few careers.
I look forward to making the most of my remaining time left with you all.
Thank you.
Mr Michael Jennings
Principal
