SomaFlow Method Movement education that restores trust in the body through organisation, not control.

I’ve spent a lot of time recently thinking about how much I’ve changed.

There are many ways to work with the body.

SomaFlow asks a different question.

It isn’t another method of somatic movement, mindfulness, breathwork, nervous-system regulation, fascia, Pilates, yoga, corrective exercise, therapeutic movement or body awareness.

At its foundation is a different relationship between practitioner, participant and body.

The practitioner doesn’t correct the body.
They don’t impose an ideal shape.
They don’t tell the participant what they should feel.

They guide attention.

The participant observes.

Through that observation, something different becomes possible: a return to the body’s own intelligence, capacity and agency.

SomaFlow is guided observation.

I wrote this because I keep seeing the healing industry argue with itself.

There is growing criticism of untrained practitioners, spiritual bypassing, toxic positivity and people positioning themselves as authorities over another person’s healing.

And then, often in response, comes another kind of positioning: I’m not one of those practitioners. I’ve trained for years. I’ll let you feel your anger. I’ll let you be yourself. My approach is different.

But if all we do is rearrange who gets to be the trusted authority, I’m not sure we have changed the underlying problem.

The question for me is much simpler:

How do we return authority to the person themselves?

Support and expertise still matter. Relationship matters. Skilled practitioners matter. We were never meant to do everything alone.

But support does not have to require surrendering agency.

In any healing environment, our work can help a person notice their own experience more clearly, recognise their own patterns, understand what is changing, and participate in the decisions that affect them.

Our expertise can offer language, perspective, questions, conditions and support.

It should not replace the person’s relationship with themselves.

This is one of the foundations of the Helical Healing Method and SomaFlow: not creating better dependency, but restoring trust, autonomy and agency to the person doing the healing.

We are not responsible for producing another person’s healing.

We are responsible for how we participate in the conditions around it.

You Were Never Meant to Heal Alone - Rejecting authority does not require rejecting support.

PRACTITIONER WORKSHOP

You are not inside your client’s body.

We can observe movement. We can bring training, anatomical knowledge and professional experience to what we see.

But we cannot know exactly what another person feels, what support they perceive, or why their body has chosen a particular movement strategy.

So before we ask a body for more effort, more control or a different strategy, SomaFlow asks another question:

What support is available?

I’m excited to introduce Support Before Effort - a two-hour experiential SomaFlow™ workshop for movement professionals.

Together we’ll explore support through the body, through the ground and through relationship, and what changes when support becomes the starting point for movement.

Because ultimately, support before effort is about autonomy.

Support is experienced.
Organisation emerges.
Effort responds.
Trust belongs to the mover.
