Sometimes the learning at Bush Kinder starts with our educators. 🌿

Aunty Dale from My Dilly Bag joined our team for a special professional development session, sharing her knowledge of bush tucker, native ingredients and cooking, along with ways these can be meaningfully incorporated into our Bush Kinder program.

Our educators were able to taste, explore, ask questions and learn firsthand — taking away knowledge they can now share with the children through real, hands-on experiences.

It’s helped us take our Bush Kinder learning to another level, creating even more opportunities for children to connect with Country and develop an appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal culture. 💚

There’s something magical about exploring the bush when the rain begins to fall!

Our Kindy children embraced the changing weather as they watched the rain transform the familiar ground beneath their feet.

Before long the ground became muddy, creating wonderful opportunities for sensory exploration, discovery and plenty of muddy fun!

The children observed the changes around them, talked about what they could see and feel, and enjoyed experiencing nature in a completely different way.

Bush Kinder reminds us that learning can happen in all kinds of weather!

Science Week has given our Kindy children the opportunity to slow down, look closely and wonder!

As part of our Seeds of Science exploration, the children investigated seeds using magnifying glasses, carefully observing their shapes, colours, textures and tiny details.

With curious minds and lots of thoughtful questions, the children explored what makes each seed unique and began developing an understanding of how these tiny beginnings can grow into something much bigger.

The kindy children have placed their seeds in bags with cotton balls and are patiently observing to see change in the seeds.

We love seeing where children's curiosity can lead when they are given the time and tools to investigate!

Kindy have been patiently watching their seeds and their careful observations have led to an exciting discovery, roots are beginning to sprout! The children are now wondering, “What will happen next?” Their predictions and observations are helping them develop an understanding of growth and change.

The children explored a wonderful selection of seeds and spices, using their senses to smell, observe and investigate each one closely.

Ashley shared fascinating information about the bush tucker plants they came from and talked with the children about how some of these ingredients can be used at home.

Ashley also a made davidson plum drink and a lemon myrtle drink for the children to taste and try. Many children sharing their enjoyment and having lots more.

From letters to seeds, our learning is filled with opportunities to wonder, investigate, connect and discover!

There had been plenty of requests for hot chocolates and toasted marshmallows at Bush Kindy, so of course we had to make it happen! 🔥☕️

The Kelly Kettle was fired up to boil the water, the marshmallows were ready for toasting and before long everyone was enjoying a very well-earned Bush Kindy treat.

There’s something pretty special about sitting together outdoors with a warm hot chocolate in your hands — especially when you’ve been part of the process of making it.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the ones the children enjoy the most.

During My Dilly Bag incursion Ashley brought in Lemon Myrtle leaves for the children to scrunch and smell.

Ashley shared how it can be used to boil to create an aroma to support anxiety and distress, it can be used in cooking, dyed and made into tea, used in play dough and also made into a syrup to drink which the children were able to taste.

Children shared “It tastes like lemon” “Its yummy” “I drink lemonade at home that tastes like this”

Who knew bubbles could do so much? 🫧

There were plenty of giggles as bubbles floated through the air, but this simple activity was doing more than entertaining the children.

Every careful puff helped build breath control and strengthen the muscles used for speech, all through play.

It's a lovely reminder that some of the best learning happens when children don't even realise they're learning.

Building a cubby is always exciting, but building one with your friends makes it even better.

Our Kindy children worked together to collect sticks, build their shelter and create a little space they could call their own.

As they sat inside enjoying all their hard work, the chickens wandered over to see what all the excitement was about. The children loved watching them through the fence, chatting about the different chickens and sharing stories from home.

It was such a simple moment, but one that brought plenty of smiles and reminded us that Bush Kindy always has a surprise waiting.

There’s something special about sharing food around a campfire.

Our Banksia Bush Kindy children gathered together to cook fresh pineapple sprinkled with cinnamon over the fire, eagerly watching it caramelise before tasting their delicious creation.

There were plenty of curious faces as everyone took their first bite, and it wasn't long before the smiles said it all!

Experiences like these encourage children to try new foods, build confidence and connect with nature in meaningful ways.

Bush Kindy reminds us that some of the best memories are made around a crackling fire, good friends and a simple shared meal. 🍍🔥

After creating their own road signs, it was time to put them to the test!

Our Kindy children transformed the car park into their very own road network, hopping on bikes and scooters to navigate the course while following the signs they had painted.

Stopping at stop signs, watching for crossings and sharing the road with friends gave the children the chance to experience road safety in a hands-on, meaningful way.

As they rode, they were also developing balance, coordination, spatial awareness and confidence, all while discovering that some of the best learning happens when play meets real-life experiences. 🚲🛑
