Changes to the 3 NM no-fly zone around aerodromes....

This is not the most recent news, but just in case you missed it...

The latest MOS depicts a change in the way the 3 nm NFZ is measured. The 3 NM is now '3 NM, in any direction, from the measurement point of any runway.'
It used to be 3 NM from the ADs movement area.

In effect the measurement is taken as a 3 NM radius from the centre-line of the threshold at either end of the runway. See the diagram below for a non-controlled AD.

Also note that the latest MOS version corrects the error of using the same diagram for both non-controlled and controlled ADs.
There are no APR/DEP extensions (crosshatched) on non-controlled ADs!

Investigation: AO-2021-001 - Loss of control and collision with terrain involving DJI Inspire 2 remotely piloted aircraft Darling Harbour Sydney, New South Wales on 15 January 2021 05/07/2022

This is a reminder to calibrate your drone compass, and not just that, but how important it is for a drone pilot to know how to fly in Atti mode.

Automation can do many great things, but when it fails a pilot will be left to fly in near manual mode (on DJI that is always Atii mode).

Therefore, we teach both 'manual' and automatic modes on all our courses. Have a look at our website for more information about our courses, and our emphasis on professionalism.

The link is to a recent ATSB report of a drone failure in Sydney harbour. We make no comment, nor cast any blame in linking this. Hopefully it will remind us that drone flying is not easy; you need to know what you are doing, and how to fly them.

One word; Professionalism.

A Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) is a professional licence which you can be proud of. You are a remote pilot, with the privileges that go with it.

Your company can compete on a professional level. Potential clients can be confident that you know what you are doing, and that you are doing it safely. Your company has high standards and can be trusted.

It's more than a course to fly a drone. Anyone can fly a drone, but not everyone can fly as a professional pilot.

We provide professional training giving you a professional advantage.

The cheapest packages are for licences which are limited to 7 kg. And if you are happy with that, good. :-)

However, 25 kg packages offer you the best value.
Maybe it’s an additional expense now, but you will find it opens more drone opportunities.

Licences above 25 kg are issued based on manufacture training on a specific drone. In most cases these will be agricultural spray drones.

So our advice is, go for 25 kg, get the full licence, and save in the long run.

When comparing providers make sure you are comparing the same weight category!

RPAS equip will give you a package discount for a 25 kg RePL.

25kg Multi Rotor allows you to fly some great drones.
Recently our client flew his DJI AGRAS MG-1S.
Love the way it follows the ground terrain.
