The Storm Waka In-School Program, delivered by Melbourne Storm, was a six-week program supporting students to strengthen cultural identity, wellbeing and connection to school and community. Through values such as teamwork, resilience and leadership, students explored inclusion, self-awareness, positive choices and social-emotional learning. The program concluded with a school-based graduation celebrating students’ participation and achievements.

This message is specifically for staff who are currently on leave.

If you are currently on leave and would like to participate in the upcoming VGSA ballot, you are welcome to attend the school to vote during one of the following sessions:

Tuesday 8 September
1:20 pm – 1:55 pm
Main Staff Room

Wednesday 9 September
3:25 pm – 4:15 pm
Main Staff Room

Thursday 10 September
1:20 pm – 1:55 pm
Main Staff Room

Please note that voting in absentia is not available. Staff on leave who wish to vote must attend the school in person during one of the above sessions.

Following the final session on Thursday 10 September, polling will close and votes will be counted.

Our Years 9, 10 and 11 Italian students recently took part in an Italian Overnight Stay in Melbourne, combining language learning with cultural experiences.

Students visited Melbourne University, participated in authentic Italian lectures and explored the ROME: Empire, Power, People exhibition at Melbourne Museum. They also enjoyed an Italian dinner together and took part in sessions on university pathways, ATAR scaling and the benefits of continuing a language through Year 12.

The students did a fantastic job engaging with the Italian-language sessions, demonstrating their confidence and knowledge throughout the experience.

Our VCE-VM Personal Development Skills 2 class put on an incredible event today at the College to raise money and awareness for Good Friday Appeal

As part of their Year 12 PDS unit, students organised a sausage sizzle and charity soccer match, with all profits going towards this important cause.

It was fantastic to see our College community come together, bring some money, grab some food and enjoy the soccer match!

A huge congratulations to our VCE-VM PDS2 students for their initiative, teamwork and commitment to supporting such a wonderful cause!

Last week, Springside West Secondary College celebrated Book Week with a fantastic range of activities organised by our English Faculty.

Students and staff had the opportunity to get involved in:

📖 Staff vs Student Debate – a lively lunchtime debate that brought together staff and students for some great discussion and friendly competition.

✍️ Creative Writing Competition Awards Ceremony – all students who entered our Creative Writing Competition were invited to a special morning tea to celebrate their hard work, creativity and achievements. Congratulations to all of our talented young writers!

🐝 Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee – students who registered for the competition put their spelling skills to the test, with Stella Legassick, Viana Udage and Nikunsh Nikunsh progressing through to the State Finals. Congratulations!

A huge thank you to our wonderful English Faculty for organising such a fun and engaging Book Week program and for encouraging our students to celebrate their love of reading, writing and language.

As part of the Year 8 Humanities course, students have been studying Medieval History throughout Term 3. To bring this fascinating period to life, our students had the opportunity to visit Kryal Castle for an immersive learning experience.

During the excursion, students participated in a range of interactive workshops exploring different aspects of European medieval life, allowing them to deepen their understanding of the period beyond the classroom.

The experience provided students with the opportunity to step back in time, engage with history in a hands-on way and gain a greater appreciation of what life was like during the medieval era.

A wonderful day of learning, exploration and history!

2027 School Uniform – Plan Ahead!

As we begin planning for 2027, we are pleased to continue our strong partnership with Dobsons, our school uniform provider. We encourage all families to plan ahead and take advantage of the upcoming School Uniform Sale, running from 1st Sept - 31st Oct.

Our school uniform is an important part of our college identity. We expect all students to wear the Springside West Secondary College uniform with pride, ensuring they are dressed appropriately and in accordance with our uniform requirements.

Next week is Health & Physical Education Week, and to celebrate, we have a range of activities that you can participate in or spectate!

All students and staff who sign up and participate will earn House Points and go into the running to win either a $10 Canteen Voucher or a $20 Hoyts Voucher!

⚽ Year 11 vs Year 12 Soccer Match

Our VCE Year 12 VM2 class is running a soccer match in support of The Good Friday Appeal on Tuesday 1 September at lunchtime.

Get ready for an exciting lunchtime showdown as Year 11 takes on Year 12! Come along to support your team, enjoy the game and grab a tasty sausage sizzle while you're there.

All money raised will go towards The Good Friday Appeal, supporting the Royal Children's Hospital.
