An update from Stuart Coonan on the Ministerial Student Advisory Council -
Last Friday I had the opportunity to be involved in the Ministerial Student Advisory Council in Brisbane with the Minister for Education.
Topics that were discussed were Artificial Intelligence and how it affects learning in schools, and how students can continue to be and become active citizens in their communities.
At the conclusion of the day, I had the opportunity with my fellow colleagues to travel to and visit Queensland’s Parliament House with the Minister, where we learnt QLD’s Government history and how our democracy has grown to where it is today.
We then further discussed how AI affects learning in and out of the classroom, and how the government can improve their resources to make learning more beneficial and enjoyable for kids both primary and secondary.

On Friday, Year 11 Literature and General English students, and a few Year 10s, travelled to Clifton State High School to participate in the INK Writing Workshops. Here, our students had the opportunity to speak to published authors, exploring everything from the initial spark of an idea through poetry, drama, journalism, horror writing along with publication and creative pathways beyond school. It has been fantastic to see these students grow their confidence and abilities as writers heading into Senior English next year!
