The end of fluorescent lighting in Australia is approaching.

Under the global Minamata Convention, 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘆-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 to reduce environmental and health risks.

Key milestones:
• Dec 2025 – CFLs ≤ 30W
• Dec 2026 – Larger CFLs + halophosphate linear fluorescents
• Dec 2027 – All fluorescent tubes (including U-bend & circular)

For businesses still operating fluorescents, this is more than compliance, it’s a chance to improve energy efficiency, reduce maintenance, and upgrade lighting quality.

LED upgrades can significantly cut operating costs while improving workplace safety and visibility.
