🔔 AusAlert Test – Queensland Wide

📅 Monday 27 July 2026
⏰ 14:00 AEST

Pomona and surrounds,

On Monday at 14:00 AEST, Queensland will take part in a state-wide test of Australia’s new national emergency warning system, AusAlert.

📱 What to expect:
• A loud alert tone on compatible mobile phones
• A clearly labelled test message
• No action required

This is only a test.

What is AusAlert?

AusAlert is Australia’s new national emergency warning system. It uses modern “cell broadcast” technology to send urgent alerts directly to mobile phones within a specific area.

Unlike traditional SMS alerts:
• Messages are sent instantly to everyone in the target area
• They work even if mobile networks are congested
• They do not collect your phone number or location
• They can override silent mode in serious emergencies

In real emergencies, an AusAlert message will tell you:
• What the emergency is
• Where it is happening
• How serious it is
• What you should do
• Who issued the warning

When will it be used?

AusAlert may be used for:
• Bushfires, floods, cyclones and severe weather
• Public safety threats
• Biosecurity incidents
• Major health emergencies

This system is being introduced following recommendations from the 2020 Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements and will begin operating nationally from October 2026.

We are sharing this information so our community is aware in advance and not alarmed when devices activate on Monday.

As always, Pomona & District Weather Warnings will continue to monitor and report on genuine weather threats relevant to our district.

Stay informed, stay prepared.
