A special shoutout to all the amazing mother figures who inspire us everyday ❤️

The Early Learning Hub Picton celebrated all our mums and mother figures with a lovely afternoon tea and some Mother’s Day inspired experiences.

We would like to give a special shoutout to for the gorgeous flowers for our Mother’s Day bouquet making experience 💐

Did you know that role play encourages children to take on different roles and characters, building their social skills and confidence.

Our Tinker Lab friends demonstrated this while engaging in play in our outdoor learning environment. Using the water trough and some soapy water, giving the dolls a bath and washing the dolls clothes and washers. The children fostered their hand-eye co-ordination and fine motor skills as they hung the wet clothes on the line. The children took on real-life roles demonstrating their developing independence and social skills.

Our friends and Outdoor & Sustainability Leader Louise have been busy looking after our Community Garden and sowing some new seeds at The Early Learning Hub Picton.

Our collaboration with continues, as we embark on growing the “Summer Seed Collection” 🌞
Over the next few months each room will be growing some new plants.

Discovery Zone will be growing “Cocozelle Zucchinis”, Explorer HQ will be growing “Black Cherry Tomatoes” and Tinker Lab will be growing “Basil”.

We look forward to caring for, watering and harvesting our fruits, vegetables and herbs 🍅 🥒 🌿

Our friends and educators have been busy creating their very own Community Garden at The Early Learning Hub Picton. Working in collaboration with we aim to make growing food simple, social and fun. 🌱

Our children are encouraged to be actively involved in the planting, watering, caring and harvesting of the produce we are growing, as well as promoting sustainable practices and connecting to nature.

So far, we have grown red cabbage, which was used in our salads and spaghetti bolognese dishes, and spinach which made delicious spinach and ricotta rolls!

Beans, corn and cucumbers will be our next harvest! 🥬🫛🌽

Our friends have been enjoying the Spring sun and warm weather 😎

We have been engaging in play in the outdoor learning environment and exploring the creek bed. Using the water pump our friends create a river of water where they collect wet sand and water to engage in play with. Imaginations were running wild! 🪨

Nature play helps to provide an environment for a child to develop in many developmental areas. It supports physical health, social and emotional development, development of all the senses, and overall wellbeing.

Our Explorer HQ friends explored their interest in sensory play.

Using our very own vegetable and herb garden, the children collected mint leaves, rosemary, and some parsley. We even had a donation of lemons from one of our Explorer HQ families.

Using a variety of resources the children explored the concepts of measurement, mathematics and problem solving, while also stimulating their senses.
Engaging in nature offers so many sensory opportunities!

This year our children, educators and families came together representing The Early Learning Hub at the Picton ANZAC Day Service and March.

Together with our local community we paid our respects in commemoration and rememberence of the service and sacrifice of those whom have served in war, conflict and peace operations.

Hand in hand our children, families and educators marched in rememberence, a special memory they will all hold in their hearts🌹

At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them, lest we forget

Last week our Tinker Lab friends went on an excursion to Warragamba Dam! 💧

We started off by meeting Leonie, who was our very special guide for the day.

We ventured up to the viewing room where we had a fabulous view of the Dam and Lake Burragorang. We read a quick story before it was time to explore some beautiful experiences that had been planned for us. We explored a playdough table, construction area, fishing for bugs, puzzle, and book area as well as drawing pictures using the view!

It was then time for us to head back to the bus and make our way over to the Dam! We got to view the water spilling out of the dam which we were very lucky to see. After this, we got to explore the tunnels and pipes that make the water happen and see just how much work goes into our water that we use every day.

Gold Panning with the Tinker Lab ⛏️

Our Tinker Lab friends have been interested in collecting rocks recently. To extend on this interest, children have engaged in rock paintings to create their own gold nuggets. These were placed in the creek bed in the outdoor learning environment creating a space where the children could use their imaginations and become gold panners 👷🏻‍♂️👷🏻‍♀️

Did you know… Outdoor experiences provide children with opportunities to explore, discover and appreciate their natural world. Children become active, strengthening their fine and gross motor movement skills, testing their physical limits, and even getting messy 🪨🍂
