๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ VSSA INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
Last Friday, A selected group of Year 3-6 runners attended the VSSA Interschool Cross Country Carnival at Homestead Park in Thornlie.
Our team showed incredible determination, resilience, and sportsmanship throughout the day, finishing 5th overall against some very strong competition. ๐Ÿ’ช
A special congratulations to Maddox , who finished 2nd place in the Year 5 Boys race, that came right down to the wire! ๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿ‘
We were also incredibly proud of our Year 3 Boys and Year 3 Girls, who took out the Year Level Trophies for the highest overall points! What an amazing achievement with it being our first trophy at a Cross Country event.
A huge congratulations to all our runners for giving their absolute best, supporting one another and proudly representing our school. We couldn't be prouder of you all!

On Friday, staff at Aspiri had the privilege of participating in culturally responsive professional learning, including a meaningful โ€˜Walk and Talkโ€™ on Country experience and an introduction to Embedding Aboriginal Perspectives in Education. We were warmly guided by Cyril and Bec Yarran from Milliyaan Aboriginal Services, who generously shared their culture, traditions, and family stories, creating a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding and strengthen connections.
Through stories passed down across generations, Cyril spoke about the importance of Country, family, community, and cultural identity. Both Cyril and Bec shared personal experiences that highlighted the strength, resilience, and enduring cultural knowledge of First Nations peoples, offering insights into the vital role culture continues to play in everyday life.
The session encouraged staff to reflect, listen and learn with respect, while developing a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal knowledge, culture and perspectives. It reinforced the importance of creating culturally responsive and inclusive learning environments where every student feels a strong sense of belonging and connection. Staff particularly enjoyed singing and moving to Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in Noongar language. Opportunities like these truly warm our hearts, fostering meaningful connections and a shared commitment to learning from and with Aboriginal communities.
We sincerely thank Cyril and Bec for sharing their time, knowledge, and experiences with us. Their generosity provided a meaningful opportunity to deepen our understanding of Country, culture, and culturally responsive practice, and we look forward to continuing this learning journey alongside our students, families, and community.
