Djilba is the Noongar season of conception and growth, spanning August and September.

As part of our learning and exploration of the Noongar season, we are working on our creative visual expression of Djilba.

Colours of Djilba - our canvas features lots of shades of pink, purple, and yellow to symbolise the first massive bloom of native wattles and flowers such as the Geraldton Wax.

Our process, our Junior Kindy friends were very fascinated by the season and its flora and fauna. We began the process by talking about the animals, colours and plants, and chose the colour pink as our base.

We then glued some bark for the garden beds, similar to what we see in our play yard, full of wood chips. Later, we used a hole punch to make our wattle plant and cut together purple paper for more wildflowers.

The Kindy children have started their Kambarang canvas, representing the weather in October to November.

They explore the plants and flowers that First Nations people would have passed on their walks to the coastal areas as the seasons change.

This week, our Kindy children have been exploring the Noongar Season Kambarang as they explored native plants and animals.

The flower, a red bottlebrush found all around Noongar land, where, 60,000 years ago, First Nations people would make their way from the bush to the coast once they saw the flowers in full bloom.

The Yonga children shared and took turns with pencils, textas, and oil pastels that represent the colors of the flower, trying to recreate a bottle brush on the paper provided to them.

Our Kindy and Junior Kindy children have been learning about the human body this week. They explored naming different body parts and making the body parts out of Play-Doh using their fine motor skills. They then placed the pieces they had made on their body cutouts.
