Darren is a Speech Pathologist who works at our school. This is a fantastic article celebrating speechies who support QLD students every day!

Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs in learning start with finding the right words. ๐Ÿ’ฌ

For Darren, a speech-language pathologist working in our schools, helping students communicate with confidence is more than a job. It's a chance to open doors to learning, friendships and participation at school.

'I actually landed in speech pathology as a way to use my Linguistics degree,' Darren said.

'At the time, I didn't really know what the role involved. It turns out it covers quite a lot.'

Every day, speech-language pathologists support students with a wide range of communication needs.

From helping students develop speech, language and literacy skills, to supporting those who stutter or who have swallowing and mealtime needs, their work touches many aspects of a young person's school experience.

But Darren said the role is about far more than communication alone.

'Many of these challenges can also affect a student's confidence, friendships and ability to participate in school life,' he said.

Darren works alongside teachers, families and other specialists, building the knowledge and confidence of the adults around each student. That way the right supports are in place both in and beyond the classroom. ๐Ÿค

'One of the most rewarding things is seeing a student take part in something they previously found difficult,' he said.

'Not because the difficulty has disappeared, but because they now have the skills, confidence and support to succeed.' ๐ŸŒŸ

Shout out to Darren and all our speechies who support Qld school students every day!

A beautiful ending to a very special story at Petrie State School! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿจ

On Thursday, a tiny 350g baby koala fell from a tree in our school grounds. The wonderful team from Pine Rivers Koala Care came to the rescue and took the little joey into their care and worked towards reuniting her with mum. ๐ŸŒฟ

Today we got the news we had all been hoping for. Mum (Polly) and baby (Pocket) were successfully reunited and are now safely back together in a tree in the Petrie State School grounds. ๐Ÿจโค๏ธ๐Ÿจ

What an incredible experience and such a beautiful reminder of the wildlife we are lucky enough to share our school environment with.

A huge thank you to Pine Rivers Koala Care and everyone involved in getting this tiny little one safely back where he belongs โ€” with his mum. ๐Ÿ’š

Have a wonderful life, Polly & Pocket! โค๏ธ

Congratulations to the latest recipients of the Principal's award.

Ryder in Year 1 was nominated by Miss Bec. Ryder has been helping out and doing an amazing job in the "Forest School." He has been using problem solving skills and showing others how to work safely, and helping others to make great choices.

I was out in the playground this week and saw Ava in Year 4 being a proactive problem solver for one of her peers, who was having a hard time in the playground. She gave up her turn so that someone else could feel better. Small actions make big impacts!

I will continue to visit classrooms and check on student work and reward effort and achievement where I can.
