Leaving Australia permanently? Don’t forget your SUPER 💰
If you’re an international student or temporary visa holder and you’ve worked in Australia, your employer probably paid superannuation (super) for you.
When you leave Australia permanently, you may be able to get that money back through something called a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP).
What is DASP?
DASP is a payment of the super you earned while working in Australia on a temporary visa, after:
⏰you have left Australia, and
⏲️your temporary visa has expired or been cancelled, and
🕰️you are not an Australian or NZ citizen or Australian permanent resident.
Why it matters⚱️🏺📿
Many students forget about their super and leave thousands of dollars behind. Once you go, your super may eventually be transferred to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as unclaimed money – you can still claim it, but it’s easier if you do it early.
Before you leave, get ready:
👉 Find out which super fund(s) you have and your member numbers
👉 Make sure your name and details with the fund match your passport
👉 Keep your TFN, passport, visa details and an Australian bank account handy – they make the DASP process smoother
How to claim
After you’ve left and your visa ends, you can usually apply online via the ATO’s DASP online application system:
👉 Visit the ATO page: “Departing Australia superannuation payment (DASP)” on the ATO website and follow the steps.
Remember: this is your money – don’t leave it behind.
If you’re not sure where to start, talk to your super fund or a trusted advisor before you fly out.

Feeling stuck? Start with your space. 🧹
The wet weather has arrived early in Perth, and if you’ve got no plans this weekend, it might be the perfect time to declutter.🌦️🌧️⛈️🌨️
As international students, it’s very easy to bring everything with you – books, furniture, clothes, kitchen bits, random cables and every other little bric-a-brac. Then, before you know it, your room (and your head!) feels crowded.
Why declutter?
Clear space = clearer mind
Less mess = less stress
A calm room can help you sleep, study and think better
Where to start this weekend:
🍁Go through your clothes and keep only what you wear and love
🍭Sort your books and notes – recycle what you no longer need
⚽️Check drawers and shelves for duplicates and “just in case” items
What to do with the things you don’t need:
🍪 Donate usable items to local charities or op shops
🏉 Give away things in good condition to friends or new students
🍡Sell larger items on Marketplace or local buy/sell groups
A healthy environment = healthy body = healthy mind.
Even one small bag of clutter gone is a win. 🤩
If you declutter this weekend, tag us and show us your “before and after” – we’d love to celebrate your progress with you.

The 482 visa (Skills in Demand / TSS) is a powerful way to work in Australia — but it’s also easy to get wrong if you don’t understand how it works.
It’s not just one application. Three parts must all line up:
1. the employer (as an approved sponsor);
2. the position they nominate; and
3. you, the applicant.
If any of these fails, the whole 482 can be refused.
Some common “don’ts” that cause problems:
❌ Don’t nominate an occupation that doesn’t genuinely match the duties or your background.
❌ Don’t use a “paper position” that doesn’t fit the real size or needs of the business.
❌ Don’t ignore labour market testing or salary rules.
❌ Don’t apply with weak, unrelated experience or inconsistent information.
❌ Don’t overlook visa history, compliance, health and character issues.
💼 How we can help applicants
✔️Check your CV, qualifications and experience against 482 rules and occupation lists.
✔️Flag realistic options and explain risks clearly.
✔️Help you understand English, skills, health and character requirements.
✔️Review your visa history and timing so you don’t miss key windows.
✔️Organise your documents so your skills and experience are clearly evidenced.
🏢 How we can help sponsors/employers
✔️Explain sponsorship and nomination obligations in plain English.
✔️Review whether the role is fits and matches the right ANZSCO occupation.
✔️Guide you on salary levels, AMSR and TSMIT.
✔️Help you plan and document labour market testing properly.
✔️Check your business and financial documents to support the nomination and avoid technical refusals.
A 482 visa is too important for trial and error. Getting the right advice early can save time, money and stress for both the worker and the employer.

Laughter really is the best medicine — especially before finals. 😄📚
As you head into end‑of‑semester exams, don’t forget to step away from your notes, breathe, and give your brain a proper reset. A good laugh can reduce stress, lift your mood, and help you come back to your studies with more focus and energy.
The perfect excuse? Perth Comedy Festival 2026. 🎭✨
Comedy’s biggest month is still on for the week till this Sunday 17 May 2026, with shows running across the city and a huge lineup of local and international comedians. You can catch acts at some of Perth’s key comedy hubs, including iconic venues like the Regal Theatre in Subiaco, the Astor Theatre in Mount Lawley, The Rechabite in Northbridge, Freo Social in Fremantle, and the State Theatre Centre of WA in the CBD.
Swap one night of cramming for a night of comedy, and let your mind recharge while you laugh it out. Your notes will still be there when you get back — but you’ll feel a lot better. 💙

Don't forget this weekend is special!
Mother’s Day can feel different when you’re studying thousands of miles from home. 🌏💙
To every international student missing Mum today, and to every mum missing her child in a foreign land — your love is still strong, even across time zones and screens. This Mother’s Day, you can still make it special:
🌸 Schedule a proper video call — dress up, choose a nice background, and give her your full attention
💌 Send a heartfelt voice note or letter in your own words, sharing what you’ve learned and how she’s helped you get here
📸 Create a small photo or video montage from your life abroad and share it with her
🎁 Organise a surprise delivery back home (flowers, cake, a meal, or something meaningful in your culture)
🤲 Donate or do a small act of kindness in her honour — especially if she always taught you to care for others
And don’t forget the mother‑figures in your life:
To the aunties, grandmothers, older siblings, and family friends who’ve played a “mum” role — today is for you too.
To homestay mums opening their homes and hearts to students in a new country — thank you for being a family away from home. A simple card, a small gift, or cooking them a meal can mean the world. 🏠💗
Wherever you are this Mother’s Day, remember: you’re not loving your mum any less by chasing your dreams abroad — you’re living out the future she wanted for you.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mums, mum‑figures, and homestay mums in our community. 🌷

Studying in Australia starts with one crucial step: proving you can afford it. 💰✈️
When you apply for a student visa, the visa officer needs to see clear evidence that you can pay your tuition fees, living costs, and travel without financial stress. Strong financial documents can mean fewer delays, fewer questions, and a better chance of approval. ✅
Here are some common examples of financial evidence you may need:
🏦 Recent bank statements with a stable, genuine balance
💼 Savings or fixed deposits held over a period of time
👨👩👧👦 Proof of income for you or your sponsor (payslips, tax returns, employment letters)
🎓 Approved education loans from recognised financial institutions
📜 Official scholarship or sponsorship letters
Just as important as what is accepted is what usually is NOT accepted:
📱 Screenshots from online banking apps that can be edited or don’t show full account details
🧾 Simple bank “balance letters” that only state a figure without transaction history or holding period
🔒 Superannuation, retirement funds, or investment products that are not immediately accessible as cash
💳 Temporary credit limits, overdrafts, or personal credit cards presented as “savings”
🤝 Unexplained cash deposits with no clear source (for example, large last‑minute lump sums)
Every visa application is unique, and financial requirements can change over time, so it’s essential to check the latest official guidelines for your situation before you apply. 🔎
If you’re planning to study in Australia and feel unsure whether your financial evidence is strong enough, we are here to guide you so you can submit a clearer, more confident student visa application. 💙🌏
Did you know? Perth didn’t get the name “City of Light” by accident. ✨
On 20 February 1962, when astronaut John Glenn orbited the Earth on his Friendship 7 mission, Perth residents and businesses were invited to switch on every light they could – house lights, street lights, torches and lanterns – so their city would shine brightly from space. From above, John Glenn could clearly see Perth glowing in the darkness, and the nickname “City of Light” was born.
Today, that same spirit of connection and possibility is what makes Perth such an inspiring place to live, study and dream big.
