Year 10s Talk Media with the Experts 🎥
Our Year 10 Media Arts students recently jumped into the fast-paced world of live broadcasting, visiting the studios of Sonshine FM and Channel 9 Perth.
As part of their current affairs project, this excursion gave students a rare, behind-the-scenes look at how live media and news stories actually come together. They explored industry-standard facilities, operated professional equipment, and met with real presenters and technical operators.
By engaging directly with media professionals, our students gained a first-hand understanding of the critical thinking, ethics, and quick decision-making that go into a story before it hits the airwaves. The studio hosts were incredibly impressed by the maturity and insightful questions our students brought to the table.

Taking on the World Stage 🤖✈️
This year, our robotics teams were off to the United States to compete against the very best at the VEX World Championships! Representing Australia with pride (and a touch of local flair via a Bunnings hat), our students proved that they belong on the global stage.
Competing at this level requires immense grit and advanced technical skill. Team 79419S fought through one of the toughest qualification schedules we've ever faced, while Team 79419N temporarily ranked 1st in their division to blast into the elimination rounds.
A major highlight went to Team 79419X, who took home the prestigious Judges Award in the Middle School division. Out of over 80 international teams, they were chosen for their incredible perseverance through early technical challenges and their professional communication skills, real-world qualities that will serve them long after graduation.
With the new season games already released, our innovative students are already designing for next year. We couldn't be prouder of VEX teams and department

Hope comes from remembering that in difficult or overwhelming moments, we are not alone. This verse speaks about how God helps guide us away from unhelpful habits and ways of thinking, and towards a life shaped by love, purpose and hope. Together, we can move forward with confidence, supported by both God’s love and the people around us.

The 2026 Year 12 Ball ✨
The Class of 2026 stepped out in style at Fraser’s in Kings Park for their Year 12 Ball.
After months of anticipation and hours of preparation, our seniors looked absolutely spectacular as they gathered on the lawn for mocktails. It was a beautiful opportunity for students to pause, celebrate how far they’ve come, and capture memories with the friends and Homeroom teachers who have walked alongside them throughout their schooling journey.
From dancing the night away to DJ Diesel's tunes to celebrating fun awards like "Best Hair" and the "WOW Factor," the energy was electric. The ball is a significant milestone that honours the maturity and growth of our graduating class. It was a joyful, well-deserved celebration for a cohort we are incredibly proud of!

Unlocking the Power of Story with Mark Smith 📚
Our Year 12 English students had the incredible privilege of hosting acclaimed Australian author Mark Smith on campus last week.
Instead of just analysing textbook literature, our seniors got a rare, behind-the-scenes look into the creative industry. Mark shared real-world insights on what it takes to craft a compelling protagonist, overcome writer's block, and navigate the publishing world through hard, smart work.
Using his celebrated novel 'The Road to Winter' as a case study, he challenged students to think critically about storytelling and character resilience. These are invaluable tools as they tackle their own senior assessments.
The session wrapped up with personal book signings and tailored advice, leaving our Year 12s inspired and equipped to write their own novels, if they so wished.

Our campus was alive with energy recently as we hosted a spectacular Japanese Taiko drumming performance. While the whole school enjoyed the powerful display, our Year 10 Japanese students stepped up for a hands-on workshop, learning the technique and discipline required to play these traditional instruments.
To experience a culture through its sounds, tastes, and traditions makes language learning tangible. By bringing these global traditions to our doorstep, our students aren't just memorising words, but building a genuine curiosity and a broader perspective of the world.
Thank you to Ms Chew and the Languages team for bringing our studies to life!

Bridging the Gap through Story 📚
There is something truly special about seeing the "big kids" and the little kids of our College come together. Over the last few weeks, our Certificate II in Community Services students stepped into the role of mentors, visiting our Pre-Primary and Year 1 classes for a series of reading sessions in the library.
Stepping into a mentorship role requires empathy, clear communication, and the ability to engage a younger audience, essential skills as they prepare for careers in service and leadership. Watching them lead with such patience and care is a testament to the character they’ve developed during their time at Carey.
For our younger learners, the joy was found in the one-on-one attention and the excitement of sharing a book with a student they look up to.
