This week, we continue to come together to learn, reflect, and take meaningful steps towards reconciliation.

At Nido Early School QV1, we are committed to fostering respect, understanding, and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories.

At Nido, reconciliation is not something we focus on for just one week each year. It is embedded throughout our curriculum, daily practices, and environments all year round.

Through meaningful learning experiences, storytelling, connections with Country, and the inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, we support children to develop a deep sense of respect, belonging, and appreciation for the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn, nurture and play.

Guided by the Noongar principle of Danjoo Koorliny (walking together), we are united in our commitment to building a more inclusive future for all.

C O N N E C T I N G W I T H C O M M U N I T Y

Community excursions provide children with meaningful opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, and today our Toddler children enjoyed an exciting visit to the City of Perth library.

The children explored a variety of books, participated in storytelling, and confidently explored the library alongside their educators. Experiences like these help support early literacy, communication, confidence, and social development while fostering curiosity and a love of learning.

E X P L O R I N G N A T U R E T H R O U G H P L A Y

With petals, leaves, and water, the children were invited to mix, pour, and create, engaging their senses through touch, smell, and sight.

These moments of exploration support creativity, fine motor development, and a sense of calm as children connect with nature.

Many children engaged in filling, pouring, and experimenting with the bottles and cups discovering new ways to use the materials.

We loved watching their curiosity come to life as they experimented, shared resources, and worked alongside one another

Where are your roots? What is your families boodjar/land? Where have you travelled to within the world?

With the continued input from our beautiful moort/family community, we have been adding to our world wall for almost a year now. This new approach to documenting where we are from, originated from a question asked by a Kinder child - "Where is your mongolia?"

Representation is crucial in the early years, as children learn their origins, as well as forming connection to the boodjar/land on which they grow. Our friends adore a trip down the hallway to visit their teachers, friends, and colorful flags of the world 🌏🌍🌎

ANZAC DAY

Today, we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all who have served.
Our children were fortunate enough to join a service on Friday and listen to Miss Tracey share a very special show and tell with the children. Here are Miss Tracey's words to our families below:

“Today, in honour of commemorating and celebrating ANZAC Day, all the children gathered in the Toddler Two for a special show and tell with Miss Tracey. Miss Tracey brought along a few items that belonged to her grandfather, as well as items that belonged to her father.
Her grandfather served in World War 2, and her father served twice in the Vietnam War.

“During the show and tell, the teaching team held simple discussions with the children about what ANZAC Day means, and then Miss Tracey passed around the items for the children to look at. There was a certificate and pictures of Miss Tracey's grandfather, a pin, a coin, a plaque with a map of Vietnam and her father's ranking in the war, her father's enlistment card, and her father's medals.

“Miss Tracey, Miss Jean, Miss Monica, Miss Candice, and Miss Mia were all proud of the children as they were gentle and took special care in having a look at the items, and they were especially careful with the medals.”

This was a beautiful opportunity for the children to learn about and be involved in developing an understanding of an important part of Australian history. We are so proud of the children and their respect shown towards these special treasures brought in today.
