Tales from the field is a FREE wine and cheese event for geoscience undergraduates and postgraduates held in the First Year Lab within the Geology Building.

Every geologist has an interesting story, whether it be funny, thrilling or just amusing. Therefore come down and mingle with the faculty, have a drink and listen to some of our best storytellers (ft: Marco Fiorentini) which include lecturers, post-grads and other guests! We'll also have an open mic section where attendees are free to stand on stage and share their favourite geology-related story as well.

Free Wine and Cheese will be provided during this event. This is an 18+ event and no BYO alcohol.

Location: First Year Lab, Geology Building
Date and Time: Friday, 20th of September, 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

Some excellent news for the School, with Earth and Marine Science being ranked 32nd in the latest QS Subject Rankings, a rise from 43rd in 2017. This is great recognition and acknowledgement of our dedicated and hardworking staff and students, and our marine science colleagues. Well done!

Congratulations to Dr David Haig who is the 2018 Gibb-Maitland medalist. This is a fantastic and well-deserved honour and recognises David’s tremendous contribution to geoscience in Western Australia most notably his expertise in marine sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology and biostratigraphy and its application to unravelling the history of WA’s and Timor Leste’s Paleozoic basins, and his long contribution to teaching and research at UWA.

Congratulations to Dr Andrew Pomeroy and Simon Jankowski for winning prestigious Fulbright Scholarships for 2017. Andrew has been awarded a Fulbright Postdoctoral Scholarship to work at the USGS in Santa Cruz and Simon has been awarded a Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship to work at Stanford University. They are both highly deserving recipients of these scholarships and we wish them all the very best for the research they will undertake while in the US.
