This is something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. 💙

There is a big research project that I have been thinking about for the past couple of years. It’s something that will absolutely stretch me, and push me out of my comfort zone. And every time I think about what it could lead to, I get excited. I feel that spark. The feeling that reminds you why you chose this profession in the first place. 💫

And yet - every time it looks like I have space to start working on it, something else fills that window. 😞

Gastro hitting the household. An increased after-hours load. Administrative tasks that can’t wait. New work commitments. A hundred real, valid, completely legitimate things … that all belong to everyone else’s world.

And my project gets quietly pushed to tomorrow. Then next week. Then “when things settle down.”

Here’s what stopped me though.

None of those things that were stealing my focus was moving the needle for me professionally. 👎 Every single one of them was for someone else. And it made me wonder... how many of us are doing exactly this with our professional growth?

Telling ourselves we’ll invest in our career development … next year. When the kids are older. When the roster calms down. When our staffing is what it should be. When we’re not so tired. 🤷‍♀️

But life doesn’t settle. It fills.

Growth creates self-confidence. Growth creates purpose. Growth creates the kind of career satisfaction that makes the hard days feel worth it.

You are not too busy to grow.
You are just putting everyone else first. 💙

The CPD myth keeping veterinary professionals stuck. 🤫

There’s this idea floating around in our profession that CPD has to be a big, scheduled, dedicated block of time.

A conference. A full-day workshop. A weekend away from the clinic. Or from home.

And because that feels impossible to organise most weeks - we put it off. And put it off. And suddenly it’s been six months and the guilt is real. 😬

But here’s the truth: the vets and nurses who stay on top of their CPD aren’t doing more than you. They’re just not waiting for the perfect window that never comes.

CPD doesn’t have to be a big deal. It can be small, bite-sized pieces done consistently - and when you have the right system around it, the whole thing just works. 🙌

No guilt. No scrambling. No last-minute panic.

If CPD makes you anxious, the problem isn’t you. It’s the system. 😬

Veterinary medicine attracts some of the most driven, dedicated, hardworking people on the planet.

And yet so many of us carry this quiet guilt around CPD. This low-level hum of “I should be doing more” that follows us around between shifts, on days off, and even on holidays.

Can I let you in on something? 🤫

That guilt isn’t a personality flaw. It’s not laziness. It’s not a lack of commitment to our profession.

It’s what happens when you’re a high-achiever operating without a system that actually supports you.

We were never taught how to do CPD well. No structure. No clear direction. No development plan. No one mapping out what’s relevant, what counts, and how to log it properly.

We are just told we have to do it.

So we wing it. And winging it doesn’t quite feel right. Especially for people who care as much as we do. 😻

Here’s what I want you to know heading into this weekend:
You are not behind. You are not failing. You just need a better system.

And that’s something we can absolutely provide for you. 💙
