🎉 A huge congratulations to Carnarvon Yacht Club for officially becoming Australian Sailing’s newest Discover Sailing Centre! ⛵
This achievement is a testament to the significant amount of work, dedication and commitment shown by the club committee and volunteers to make this happen. Their efforts in building opportunities for participation and strengthening sailing in the region are something to be incredibly proud of.
We’re especially excited to see the opportunities this creates for junior sailors, supporting their transition from Tackers through to Firebugs, helping young sailors develop skills, confidence and a lifelong love of sailing.
We’re proud to welcome Carnarvon Yacht Club to the Discover Sailing Centre network and look forward to seeing even more people discover sailing in the Gascoyne region.
Congratulations to the committee, volunteers and wider club community on this fantastic achievement! 👏🌊

Not Just Turns - Penalties for Breaking Rule 42 🙅
Following on from our last article, here’s what happens if you’re penalised under rule 42.
When judges are on the water observing under Appendix P of the Racing Rules of Sailing, they apply a sliding scale of penalties that become more severe with repeated infringements.
First penalty (P2.1): A Two-Turns Penalty. Complete it correctly - clear of other boats, then make two turns in the same direction (each including a tack and gybe). Failure = disqualification.
Second penalty (P2.2): You must promptly retire from the race. If not, you’ll be scored DNE.
Third and further penalties (P2.3): You must promptly retire, otherwise you risk disqualification from the event with no score excluded and possible misconduct action.
Always check the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, as penalties can be changed.
