Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder that a simple conversation can make a meaningful difference.
Research shows that many people underestimate the impact of checking in with someone they care about. Yet 9 in 10 people who have been asked "Are you OK?" say they felt supported, cared for and grateful. If someone is on your mind, trust your instinct and start the conversation. What people value most is genuine care, trust and someone who will listen without judgement.
At the ECU School of Nursing and Midwifery, we know that mental health support shouldn't only be available in times of crisis. It needs to be accessible within our schools, health services and communities every day of the year.
That's why we're proud to launch the Psychosocial Interventions Clinical Trials Group (PICT): https://www.ecu.edu.au/schools/nursing-and-midwifery/our-research/psychosocial-interventions-clinical-trials-group-pict
PICT brings together researchers, clinicians, consumers and community partners to improve access to evidence-based mental health support through high-quality clinical trials and implementation research.
PICT focuses on practical, effective and scalable psychosocial interventions that can help people who may have limited access to specialist mental health services. By working alongside health services, schools and community organisations, the team aims to strengthen local services, build workforce capability and improve access to mental health support where it's needed most.
Because mental health matters every day, not just on R U OK?Day.
