Hi my name is Simone. I'm 49 years old and I have 4 children of my own ranging in age from 14-29yrs. I also have a foster child who is currently living with us and is now a part of our family. I'm a very open and relaxed person and I love a chat. I've been welcoming children into my home for over 6 years now. I love that family day care is a small group of children, and the most important thing fo

Beeeeing ๐Ÿ˜ International Bee day last week we explored all things Bee.
We watched 2 very interesting YouTube shows about Bees. One was a lady called Maddy harvesting from her hives and the other, a kids science show about our little buzzy friends. As you can see from the set up I made a version of 2 different hives for us to roll play with.

Gross Bee fact you may not know.....

After a Bee's Honey stomach is full they find a Bee friend and transfer the contents to the other Bee who then transfers to another and so on for at least 5 times! Each time adding more enzymes and reducing the water content turning the flower nectar into honey. When the last Bee delivers it to the hive and the cell fills up other Bee's fan it with their wings reducing the water content even more. These things make the nectar the honey we love so much!.... So the next time you eat honey remember how its basically bee vomit your eating ๐Ÿ˜‚
Fasinating little creatures!

Today we used a different ingredient in our pretty cup cakes.... we used Wattle Seed both in the cakes and the icing. Wattle seed has a lovely smell and taste. It's kind of like chocolate with a hint of caramel coffee.

Wattle seed has been used by our 'First nations people' over the years for a variety of things. From pounding it into a flour and mixing with water to form a cake, then baked over hot coals. To being used to treat skin sores, infections, eczema, and even using the smoke from roasted the seeds to help tummy aches and headaches.

Happy Mothers Day to all the mums out there today.
Here we have been busy creating our gifts filling them with love just for mum.
Don't you just love the giant flower on the bags!.
Here i have a lot of crystals hanging in my kitchen window that the children love to watch as I make them dance so now mum has one to brighten her days too. โ˜บ๏ธ

We made a card, a personalised cup and oven mitt, coconut cookies and Hot chocolate, our pretty crystals and a giant hanging heart.

Last week was Earth Day. We made bird seed feeders and seed bombs ( poppy seeds were inside and if planted around ANZAC they flower around Remembrance day) we read a couple of books about looking after out planet ( Mother Nature was a favourite) and did a little craft as we chatted about how we can look after our beautiful planet with its animals, plants, oceans, rivers, lakes and sky's.

This week the children explored ANZAC crafts, activities and books. I beleive that these activities begin to build an understanding in a gentle, meaningful way that will develop into a greater understanding over time as they grow older. We explored ANZAC through books, playdough, loose parts and craft. We focus on simple ideas and values such as respect, kindness and bravery rather than the sadness of war. I beleive begining to build this understanding helps children to develop connections to their community and as time goes on a sence of belonging.

As both of my grandfathers served with one being a prisoner on the Burma railway, these days of remembrance and respect hold great value to me .

Lest we forget.

Children know what they want... you would think a big under cover sandpit would be the draw card each day..... not today!!!. They have chosen to play in this little spot under the stairs to the cubby house.

It Sttttrrretches and drips...... It SNAPS... you can squish it in your hands and mould it..... What is it???

It's called bubble dough.

Corn flour, dish soap and an imagination is all you need for this fun activity.

This is what scientists call a non-Newtonian fluid. That means it behaves like a solid and a liquid depending on how much pressure you apply to it.. Just the same as Oobleck..Aka, Cornflour and water.

Isn't little Miss's Snow man cute. She found the stick, snapped it and used it for the arms and to press it into the head to make the eyes and mouth... Such a clever cookie! Everyone else loved her idea and decided to make one too.
