The Press Gang

The Press Gang "Boozeheads, Friends, Countrymen..lend me your ears." If it comes in a bottle, the press gang probably have some interest in it.

The name,The Press Gang, originally devolved from the three principle interests of the cadre; Making and drinking wine (ie. 'wine'press), Talking/writing about booze (thusly TPG is an allusion to the 'printing'press).. and finally the obvious reference, that of being 'Press-ganged' -forced to work somewhere you don't want to. Of course we love beer and other booze as well..basically if it comes in a can or bottle, we're interested in trying it.

‘8 year old Fur’.. was what I heard them say.. in passing.. and as good citizen, I was instantly concerned !

But i need not have worried, and it turns out they meant Fer.. ( Fer Servadou) a second division grape also called Pinenc.. which ive heard of but never met before. .. and it was an 8yo wine.*
Malbec , first comes to mind, Bonarda even, or ..some kind of ‘wild cousin of Cabernet x Mataro’ !
I didn’t know that we had any in Australia… this is quite decent, the tannic structure and riparian DNA could easily lean into Australian wine geographies and as a warm climate region variety, more often than not, .. and a blending tool, in the class of Petit Verdot, Mourvèdre or. Merlot!
What a thing to find a whole shelf of.. on a school night.

* otherwise, Ew!

Father Dunn Brown, 8%abv, brown ale collab between Nail Brewing Australia and Artisan Brewing.
On paper , this is a glorious event, buut like many other things and once you peel back the layers of marketing and hope, you kinda only find Hype.. and a quite decent beer- if not, a somewhat counterfeit one !
Hugh Dunn, (RIP) after whom this is named (originally).. was a mentor of craft and small scale brewing in WA. full stop.
This beer ‘used’ to be the best thing NAIL ever made, limited releases, 8.5%abv and cracking!
Now.. the closest you can get is.. a copy of a copy made by Beerfarm ; { Who now make ALL Nail beers im told..!}.. and probably paid for by Brewing under contract to the NAIL brand.
Like an aging relative who has quite quickly ‘lost touch with reality’.. say hello to Nail Brewing Australia..!
Not sure why its now trying to annex GK Chestertons ‘ Father Brown’ .. into the mix, cos that is just confusing and kinda dumb, especially since nobody got the reference..!
This is the beer equivalent of ‘going to see the Rolling Stones- with No Original members in the band’! WTF?!

* The beer. is delicious, and better by some distance than anything either Beerfarm or Artisan has ever produced - fortunately just in time- before NAIL is sent to a Hospice!
I hope my information is incorrect.. but it seems not. 😞😳
What a gestalt-like situation, elated and distraught at the same time.
Ad Astra.

* Out now, if you can find it! $35/ 4pk
